My months of eating like an asshole and not exercising (which I justified as necessary in order to study) have caught up to me.

I accidentally made the bombest ass sauce. We get an organic veggie box delivered and this one had two artichokes. I pared them down and sliced them thinly and sauteed them in some butter with a shallot. Then I put in the juice of a meyer lemon and some chicken stock and braied them in a pan for a while. Meanwhile I fried some lightly floured chicken paillards. When I was done I put some butter in the same pan and sauteed some oyster mushrooms. Then I added in the braised artichokes, some more lemon juice, some more stock and then finished it off with a little cream. That damn sauce was hella good. I can't move right now but it was worth every bite.

I made some chocolate chip pretzel cookies last night and I'm pissed that I followed the recipe that called for two eggs. Those cookies just tasted like a chocolate egg.

    I hate cakey cookies

I can't *not* bake when it snows! I tried so hard, after last weekend's cookie massacre where I baked and ate dozens of chocolate chip cookies in one weekend. This weekend it was perfect walnut-cocoa brownies. I ate almost half a pan already!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Brownies from scratch are the easiest thing ever!

    1 stick of butter, melted
    2 eggs
    1/2 tsp vanilla
Dash of Salt (unless you use salted butter)
1/3-1/2 cup of cocoa powder (you can also use unsweetened baking chocolate, 4 oz)
    1/2 cup of flour
    nuts and/or chocolate chips

Mix melted butter with melted chocolate if you're using that. Mix with sugar and add eggs and vanilla. Add flour (cocoa powder goes in here if you use that instead of chocolate) and mix well. Fold in nuts. Place in a square pan that's been greased and bake at 350 until you can start to smell them and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. I start paying close attention at about 25 minutes or so, just to make sure they don't burn.
    many tine tanies

Some friends and I have begun a quest to sample as many great burgers as possible around the city of San Francisco. Last week we went to a place called Pearl's Deluxe Burgers and tried some really fantastic burgers, and being a geek I started a blog about it on Tumblr.

I know there are a ton of burger-centric blogs. This is another one.

That's a good read Drew. Any plans on reviewing the Best Burger in San Francisco?

Thanks! That one is definitely on our list of places to try. We'd intended to sample a new place every few weeks, but now we're considering trying one every Thursday for lunch.

I'm glad you enjoyed reading it. I put more work into it than my wife thought was necessary.

    Well done drieux!

After seeing this place on TV once or twice, I'd like to see a review of it on your blog at some point. Keep us updated here.

So, I've got a vacation next week to burn up some left-over holidays and no real plans. I'd like to tackle some kitchen projects. Anyone have any suggestions for interesting projects? So far I'm thinking of some of the following...making a couple different ketchups and some mustards, pickle some stuff, do some long braises, make duck prosciutto or some other charcuterie items.

    Any suggestions?

I'm really hungry...looking at this thread was the worst idea. Ordering an entire pizza and eating is sounding like a good idea right now.

I saw something on TasteSpotting recently about making your own graham cereal. That sounded neat, especially if you have a pasta press or something to get interesting shapes.
    I'm in.

BREAD. Trying to make the perfect loaf of pumpernickel = hours of fun. Plus, you can use the trial runs for sandwiches made from your charcuterie.

I think if I had a bunch of time and a bigger kitchen, I would see if I could master the art of hand pulling ramen noodles* or making restaurant quality pho.

Last night I made roast chicken and brussels sprouts with rice and a meyer lemon cream vinegrette. Tonight I think I'll make the leftovers into soup.

Recently been on a curry binge (since going vegan), and I've really liked what I'm able to cook so far. Any curry/general indian food recipe suggestions?
