David Cross returns to the big stage this fall touring behind his first book, I Drink For A Reason. The book, which comes out August 31st from Grand Central Publishing, contains essays, satire and, presumably, self-referential commentary on comedic and cultural clichés.
According to his most recent nine-monthly post on BobandDavid.com, he hopes to bring along Nick Swardson but he offers no guarantee of that modern master of the diarrhea joke. Cross has been taking Nick Swardson out on tour since at least 2002, on his "David Cross and Super Pals: A Night of Bullshit" tour. At the show I attended at New York City's erstwhile Irving Plaza, other performers included Jon Benjamin, Jack Black, Janeane Garofalo and indie-rock veterans Yo La Tengo. None of these have been promised or even mentioned in relation to the new tour.
LiveNation has listed three dates so far, in Los Angeles, Phoenix and Denver, with many more expected.
