"The Risque Cafe's version of "country-fried bacon" is served with white gravy and sells for $6." I will make the 6 hour drive to Chicago for this. Thank you for posting this beautiful piece of food.

Why does being bad taste so good?

On a side note, everyone who says "chicken fried chicken? Isn't that just fried chicken?" has never lived in the south and is dumb.

This, though...we may have gone too far with this.

the best part about this is that the unhealthiness of fried flour is negated by the healthiness of the pickle

Deep fried pickles! That's it, I'm registering!
What was the best concert you've been to?

-- Probably Sade. It was just so sexy and relaxing.

On the fried food episode of Food Network's "The Best Thing I Ever Ate," Ted Allen talked about deep-fried bacon at The Red Cat in NYC.

My grandma was from Louisville and she fried EVERYTHING in "bacon drippins" which she saved in a mason jar. All vegetables (mostly collard greens and beans, either green or baked) also had huge hunks of bacon or ham in them. Red-eye gravy was always on the table.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to vomit on my keyboard.

I think this might replace smoking as the fashionable way to commit suicide.

I have had eggs fried in the aftergrease of bacon that was cooked in a cast iron skillet. Quite lovely!

There is a booth at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield, IL that is called "Fried What?"

I'll probably be attending it in August, and can take pictures, if that's your thing.

New Orleans is a wonderful fried food city. Is there any better?

I like the detail of the opened Splenda package on the table. Gotta watch those calories!

I know it's touristy, but the last time i was there, the beignets and the iced coffee at the Du Monde was my favorite stop of the whole road trip.

Oh, and regarding NOLA, if you give a crap, I did a nice recap of my food adventures last time I was there.

I just had the idea to fry a giant San Francisky style burrito. It would be like a chimichanga, but amazing. I wonder if this is doable.

I have a friend who, no joking, deep fries butter. He freezes the butter and then breads it and deep fries it. It's sounds so fucking awful and scary, I'm afraid to even think of eating it.

That said, my mother was southern and also cooked mostly with bacon grease. It's delicious. However, I think my blood is slowly turning into buttermilk.
