Bumbershoot's complete lineup and schedule revealed. I am so fucking fucking fucking fucking fucking fucking fucking jealous of anyone who gets to go to this.

I'm going to try to go to this. I went a few years ago and loved it. I see they have a Lost writer's panel, too. Awesome! Plus, great comedy.

If I end up going, I'll need recommendations for bands. Last time, we just wandered around and found groups we liked. The Cops, The Blakes, The Bad Things, mostly if they start with "The".

well then you'll love THE BENSON INTERRUPTION - once each day at 6:15 in the charlotte martin theater.

(come for the air conditioning and/or lack of rain!)

Re: Bumbershoot 2009! Braunger, Benson, Barry, more!

I want to attend every THE BENSON INTERRUPTION, but there are many conflicts. Saturday there is an overlap with Eugene Mirman and Mystery Guest (though I can perhaps see that show Sunday). Sunday may be a possibility if I make it to see Matt Braunger, Reggie Watts, and Todd Barry on Saturday, otherwise, conflict. Monday will definitely work, but do I want to go the whole festival without seeing THE BENSON INTERRUPTION until the last day?

I think I'd be best served if I attempt to see it everyday at 6:15 and work the rest of the convoluted schedule around it.

Although I just received my rejection letter for press credentials, I will be attending nonetheless (already have airfare, hotel, and three day pass). I shall post ad-infinitum/nauseum here, on Twitter, Facebook, my site blog, maybe some other blog, and any other place I can imagine - all about what bands I see, what comedy shows I get into, what portroids (if any) I take, and my prospective ongoing schedule.

I will try to see all the comedy shows offered at least once.

    That is all (for now).

Dream the impossible dream, my friend.

Remember that all of the comedy shows at the VERA stage are like precious snowflakes falling through the vast Bumbershoot skies. Unique, different...and they can only be caught once.

pg--But thrilled once again to have wonderful people excited about coming to my city to be blown away by the embarrassment of riches that is Bumbershoot!--seattle

Re: Bumbershoot 2009! Braunger, Benson, Barry, more!

I'll be there every day as well!

It is always a tough trick to fit in every comedy show you would like to see, though. Thankfully, the comedy pass assures that you can get into your top choice each day (assuming you arrive early in the morning to get your pass!); but after that, expect to spend much of your day waiting in line to get into each show. Worth it, of course, given the glorious menu of options! But plan accordingly.

Every year, I post a series on my website about how to plan ahead so you can negotiate the Bumbershoot comedy craziness. I've already started the series this year for those who are interested. And there will be plenty more stories up there over the next two weeks! Including, I'm hoping, a few interviews with folks who are going to be performing.

Does look like it's going to be a GREAT year!

The VERA stage shows are conflicting with most of the other things I planned. I want to at least catch the Best of Seattle Intl Comedy Competition 30 yr Anniversary, but what else should I rearrange my schedule to see there? Everything looks like it would be great.

My Saturday comedy schedule is Braunger/Watts/Barry, Benson Interruption, and Yi/Oswalt. Music and other events in between.

I wonder if someone could rustle up some more specific line-ups for the VERA stage shows ahead of time...because WHO you get to see there is definitely more important than WHAT you get to see there...

I know that I've been scheduled to perform on the Sunday 6:30pm Laff*Hole show...which is awesome if you like me (I do!)...but as I rarely get to perform on the actual Laff*Hole shows, if you went expecting exactly what most Laff*Hole shows are like...you'd end up getting me, at least for part of that show, instead...

So, the idea of "The Best of the Seattle International Comedy Competition" sounds like a great show--but, and I say this as someone deeply involved in that competition, it does depend on who they book.

I've heard that Rory Scovel is booked on that particular show...and I'm a HUGE Rory Scovel fan. Rory didn't win the SICC, but he did make the finals a couple of years ago.

So, depending on who they get from anyone who has ever made the finals of the competition in the 30 years that they've had the competition...it could be astonishingly good. Or it might not be all that...

FULL DISCLOSURE: In the previous two years, I booked and hosted a show at the VERA stage called "Best of the Comedy Underground" which, I feel were some of the highest quality comedy shows all Bumbershoot weekend long...but they decided not to go with that show this year, in favor of this "best of the competition" show...and I'm not involved with the booking of that show this year.

pg--I think there are enough connected Seattle-peeps here on AST to be able to post the rosters for all of the VERA stage shows...then, decisions can be made.--seattle

Pg: Thanks for that clarification -- I was wondering what happened to Comedy Underground this year.

rdemint: It sounds like you and I will be sitting in many of the same lines together . . .

Re: Bumbershoot 2009! Braunger, Benson, Barry, more!

I recommend The Famous Mysterious Actor Show on Sunday. I'ts a flat out nuts talk show that will feature the stand up talents of Portland's Don Frost and Ron Funches.

I'd reccomend it even if I wasnt Ron Funches.

its the first comedy show of the day, which means ill have plenty of time to get inebriated and go see Maria Bamford.

Re: Bumbershoot 2009! Braunger, Benson, Barry, more!

I talked with Ron Reid, the producer of the Seattle International Comedy Competition, today...and he said that the line-up for the "Best of the Seattle International Comedy Competition" show at Bumbershoot is:

    1987 Champion: Rod Long
    2002 Champion: Harrold Gomez
    2006 Finalist: Rory Scovel
    2008 Finalist: Justin Rupple

...and that it may say that yours truly is hosting the event, but Ron said that if I'm getting time on the Laff*Hole show later that day, he might offer the hosting of the event to someone else...or even do it himself.

Lineup, as ever, is subject to change.

    pg--And I heartily recommend seeing Ron Funches--seattle

each INTERRUPTION at b-shoot will feature three or four comedians, and since i'll have a lot of friends running around up there (including MYSTERY GUEST), there won't be too much overlap. i'll try to leak the names of the performers here on AST the morning of each show.

    (6:15 every day)

This is why I was gearing my comedy calendar so I could attend every INTERRUPTION.

My original plan for Sunday comedy was to see Glaser/Swardson, Mystery Guest/Mirman, Benson Interruption, and David Cross (literary). The new info posted here by some of the Seattle comics is creating conficts. Laff Hole is at the same time as Interruption, and it seems to be my only chance (this festival) to see pg13 perform. I'm also interested in Famous Mysterious Actor and Best of SICC 30yr.

Last time I attended, I missed a bunch of performances because they sold-out. I picked up the Platinum pass this year so I could have a better chance to get into all the shows on my list (including some bands in the Music Lounge), but they schedule so many things at the same time that it's still difficult to map.

If the choice is between seeing Doug or me...even I'd pick Doug.

Next month wife and I are going to fly out to Vancouver, stop in Seattle & fly home from Portland. I just realized we're driving into Seattle on the 7th. If we leave early enough we can get some comedy passes. This is all so sudden and exciting!
