    Hey folks -
    I have 2 extra tix!
Preference goes to the AST reader who is able to pick up early afternoon Tuesday in Venice. Otherwise I'll just sell to the first 2 people in the standby line.
    PM me if interested.
    $11.80 for both (my cost)

Is this week's CDR Sketch exclusively stuff from A Kiss from Daddy The Birthday Boys and Good Neighbor, or are they the only two mentioned?

    1. We opened a few more CDR tix up. Click on the poster. About five left I think.

    2. In addition to the aforementioned performers, we have added The Sklar Brothers, Al Madrigal, and Garfunkel & Oates!

    3. Yes, the Birthday Boys & Good Neighbor are doing half a show apiece! Showcase style, if you will!

its actually the birthday boys and good neighbor, not a kiss from daddy.

But yes it is just two half hour shows from each of them, as i understand it. Neilerdude may smite me down If I am wrong.

Really fun show. I posted some photos on my Flickr. Everyone was great, but Garfunkel & Oates were the breakout stars of this show in my opinion. I'd never heard of them before today. I loved the four songs they sang.

Garfunkel and Oates were great. I've been wanting to see Al Madrigal perform since I heard him on The Sound of Young America or Jordan, Jesse, GO! or whatever. It was a solid, solid show.

From a personal standpoint my favorite part of the evening was introducing my wife to Itslikeimsayin after the show. I realized a couple seconds in to it that she has absolutely no interest in me explaining about AST people and who they are. That just tickled me for no particular reason.

She made that abundantly clear to me as well. And here I thought there was no more C.U.N.T. after CDR.

There are lots of chances to see Garfunkel & Oates around town. They've played in the 826LA "Tiny Vaudeville" shows at the Echoplex, various shows at the Fake Gallery on Melrose, the Thrilling Adventure & Supernatural Suspense Hour at M-Bar, and Kate Micucci has a monthly show called "Playin' with Micucci" at the Steve Allen Theater where she and Riki Lindhome do Garfunkel & Oates material (and more):

They also have a few videos on funnyordie, including "Present Face," "Worst Song Medley," and the relatively new "Pregnant Women are Smug":

In her defense she is enormously pregnant and had indulged me long enough by being uncomfortable for both ILM and CDR.

It's always nice to find out that the things you feel are important are viewed with utter, exasperated contempt by your significant other.

Re: CDR: Jimmy Pardo / Jerry Minor / Maria Bamford / + Doug Benson &MORE!

Harris Wittels hosted CDR and was his usual hilarious self. He talked about having trouble meeting girls in the traditional "pick up" spots like clubs. He described his height as "five foot-faggot" and also said he's just not into the same "guy" things most guys are. Like the ability to tie a knot in a cherry stem with your tongue doesn't impress him. "Tie it with the back of your throat and then we'll talk," he says. He also said he doesn't understand the appeal of the Catholic schoolgirl outfit, adding, "I don't want to fuck children. And if I did, I would."

Harris had even more great stuff but also had sort of a dud (that I can't even remember) about P-Diddy. Jimmy Pardo was next up and commended Harris for the Catholic schoolgirl joke but said the P-Diddy joke negated any gains it had achieved. Jimmy had a great set highlighted by a sequence that began with him hitting the back wall with his hand. He said he hit it harder than he'd wanted to and immediately recognized that it would hinder his ability to masturbate. He alluded to putting some sort of bandage on his hand before saying, "No one wants a hand job from a mummy." This idea eventually turned into a line that went something like, "That's why their arms are so stiff. They're covered in dried jizz."

Harris returned to the stage and called Jimmy's comment about his P-Diddy joke a cheap shot and then vowed to work out that joke throughout the rest of the show. He ended up telling a different variation on it between every act. Harris then jokingly said, "From cheap shot to Cheap Seats..." and introduced the Sklars.

Randy and Jason talked about Obama's first 100 days and how Tyler Perry got a producing credit for it because he gets a producing credit for anything involving blacks (or something like that). They talked about watching Fox News on election night and contrasted it to (something like) "Anderson Cooper's Gay Election Night Party" on CNN. They also talked about how, even on small internet videos like Back on Topps, they get notes from the studio questioning every little aspect, yet Randy watches Snow White with his daughter constantly and can't figure out how no one questioned that the plot requires the prince to find a dead girl in the forest and his first instinct is to kiss her.

Representative Richard Martin (R-Ohio) and his wife played by Maria Bamford was next. The new wrinkle of adding the wife was funny, mostly delving into her past as an exotic performer and her subservient role in their relationship.

Garfunkel and Oates were all new to me and really great. One of them played a cool-looking light blue guitar and the other played a mandolin (I guess, I'm no music expert). They sang four songs, two of which are available for download on their website. The first song was about a "third wheel" hanger-on named "Steve" that never allowed the song's narrator any alone time with her boyfriend. The next song was a medley of songs they never want to hear again ("Worst Song Medley") that included a bunch of saccharine and/or catchy songs from the last 20 years or so. The next one was about a one-night stand, and the capper was a hilarious song called "Pregnant Women are Smug" which cited many lame cliches uttered by pregnant women. Like I said earlier, I really enjoyed their songs both musically and comedically and look forward to seeing more from them in the future.

Al Madrigal was next. Much of his act revolved around him being half Mexican and the ramifications of that on his life. He talked about a hard core Mexican biker gang that has formed in his neighborhood and how he was going to start a petition against them until he realized they would stab him and twist the knife (or something to that effect). He then told a story I think he might've told at a previous CDR about a nightmarish Cinco de Mayo show in East San Jose a couple years ago.

Jerry Minor closed it out in character as a homeless-looking drug addict singing a song about smoking crack (was that an original?) complete with backing tracks. He then said he had to do one more thing and approached someone in the front row, stuck his hand down his own pants and jerked off for a minute or two before exiting the stage.

CDR ended so early, the temptation to get home prevented me from staying for CDR Sketch.

It was a parody of a Jamie Foxx song called Blame It(On the Alcohol)

Hey CDR attendees: Your camera has a mute button for a reason. There seemed to be lots of autofocus beeps taking place in the crowd last night. You're gonna give people taking pictures a bad name unless you turn that off.

Oh man, I know! All I kept hearing was this faint beeping noise. It was so distracting and annoying.
