I really wanted to puke after watching that promo.
I really wanted to puke after watching that promo.
I've heard other people (and a few media websites) make that same comment about the use of that song, but that's not the part of this promo that bothered me. I just inferred those lyrics to mean "Jay did a lot better at 11:35 than he did at 10, so now he's going back to the timeslot where he once thrived." I didn't think the intention was to say Conan doesn't belong at 11:35--just that Jay belongs there vs. 10pm. NBC would prefer its viewers forget about Conan completely, I'd imagine.
That said...the thing about the spot I found TRULY insidious (and I'm surprised I haven't heard other people talking about this) was the "10" sticker peeling off the vehicle to reveal an 11:35 sticker beneath it--LIKE IT HAD BEEN THERE ALL ALONG! There's something about the execution that made his return to 11:35 appear coldly pre-meditated -- like the 10pm show was just a temporary solution and it was just a matter of time before Jay returned to his "permanent" spot at 11:35.
Again, I think we're all reading too much into this (very crappy, hastily and inexpensively made) promo (that basically uses existing footage from Leno's old promo, with the addition of one sloppy insert shot and a song that surely ate up 99% of the budget) and that is likely fueled by a bit of anger and disgust over this whole situation. But yeah, gross.
I do love that the new promo leaves in Jay's smug grin from the original promo that aired last spring, which I think even Jay would find sort of distasteful given the current situation. However, he's a good company man, so why would he complain about something his boss decided and over which he clearly has no control?
And that was 20 minutes I could have, and should have, spent writing something more productive. God damn you.

Did you guys seen the new one set to Baby Got Back? It has him peeing on a red wig. I wonder what that means.

I wish I could watch this version, but I'm at work. Sounded very apt from the description. Can anyone see it? How is it?

Thanks, Darryl. Sorry, Scamboogah - I wasn't clear enough as to what it was I was doing there. I refuse to watch the straight promo, especially after all I've heard. But the "Creep" version - now that's a nice. Very apt indeed.
Last night I dreamt I was stuck in a room where they were watching the newly regurgitated Tonight Show and one of the first things Jay did was a clutch cargo segment. It made me very sad. But on the other hand, if they replaced Kevin Eubanks with the masturbating bear...
Please let this really be him:

I just got that tweet announcement from Aaron Blaeyart, so I'm assuming it is. YAY
Damn this work Twitter filter! What does it say?!
It says "I hate James Smann so very much."
No really it says:
" ConanOBrien
Today I interviewed a squirrel in my backyard and then threw to commercial. Somebody help me."
1. It's verified.
2. He's already got over 102,000 followers. FTW!
Seems like I finally have to cave and give in to this Twitter lark. Hmph.
Humgphhh
I know the posts are harmless, but the "Hey I'm at work please relay me what the youtube/twitter/facebook says" posts are really dumb. None of you work on an arctic crab ship. You can wait a few hours.
And before some psychopath thinks I'm speaking directly to him, this has been an ongoing problem. Nathansmart is the chief criminal of it.

Oddly enough, I DO work on an arctic crab ship, but it has WiFi.
So now I'm a psychopath? First I'm an "internet dad" now I'm a "psychopath"? Which one is it Having (no)Fun!? I'm okay with being either, because yoiu're still an asshole either way.
You are one paranoid cautionary tale.

No. I'm a dude on a comedy message board who plays shows every now and again and likes to discuss comedy. From what I can tell you're a douchebag with like five different board names all designed to make you Internet-Rad. And that's cool baby. You can do what you wanna do. But you're still a douchebag, dig?
i love this board!
