It's that time of year again! Funniest Person in Austin 2010

This coming Monday April 5th starts the 25th annual Funniest Person in a Austin Contest. The preliminaries run for the next 7 weeks and then there are semi finals and finals. This is a huge contest for comics because if you make it to the finals the judges are from Comedy Central, NBC, various talent agencies (3 Arts was there last year and will be again from what I understand). These are also great shows to come out and watch as you will get to see everything that the Austin comedy scene has to offer. From national touring comics to mentally ill people that have scraped together the $15 entry fee, everybody does the contest. (My personal picks for train wrecks this year are "Creepy Paul" and "Turbonegro")

The dates and lineups for each night can be found here http://lastgascomedy.com/fpia2010_lineups Tickets for the preliminary rounds are $6.00, a dollar of which is donated to the Austin Childrens shelter. Also, if you bring two cans of food for the Capital Area Food Bank you will get in for free.

I have some free tickets for my night of the prelims (April 27th) if anybody wants to come that night hit me up and I'll get you some tickets.

I've been following it via Last Gas and can't wait to be able to compete in it next year.

Thanks man. The competition is super stiff this year. There really are a ton of great comics in this town.

Are you living in Austin now or are you moving here?

I'll be moving to Austin in August. Though I'll be in town the end of this month to do some open mics.

And yeah, the quality of comics in Austin was huge in my deciding to move there.

Right on. Definitely hit up Last Gas so you can the the schedule of open mics and sign up procedures.

Also, let me know what dates you are in town and I can see if there are any shows happening I can get you some time on.

I'll be there May 25th and am leaving the 29th.

I've already signed up for the Velveeta Room and hope to get on at Punchline as well (I did that show back in January and had a lot of fun). And though I know it's a longshot, I plan on hitting up Matt Bearden about possibly getting on Punch.

Is there a schedule for the later rounds of FPIA? Because it would be awesome if I could attend one of those shows.

I think FPIA will be done by then. The semi finals are may 9th - may 11th and the finals are the week after.

If Punch! doesn't work out you should check out TIKI Tuesdays. Its an open mic at a coffee shop.. Its outside and has a full stage and sound system. Its a fun space and comics tend to fuck around and experiment more then do their material.

I'll keep my ears open and if I hear of any other shows I'll let you know
