Hometown pride compells me to mention that Rory will accompanied by local legend Chris Gordon.

Jesse and I are going to take a step back, and I guess Rory has plans for teaching Chris how to make it in Hollywood!

Andy Kindler, Dana Gould, and Andy Dick will be guests on Showtime's "The Green Room" on thursday.
"we found ourselves under a spotlight and decided what was real and what was not. let's break up all the pieces, build again from scratch." Why? (from Greenthink)

This is true, the greatest comedian alive will be joining myself, Rory Scovel, on "am i right?" His name is Chris Gordon and if you've never heard his comedy, you're so fucking stupid.
Also, if you feel like texting Chris Gordon during the show on Wed., here is his cell phone number: 1-403-708-6473.

    FUN!!!!!!!!

We should be recording between 6 and 8 pm MST on Wednesday, so please, feel free to text Chris anything you'd like to ask him, Rory or Jesse!

It might be read on the air and then you can totally brag about it!

Am I supposed to be comfortable with people I love and respect going on Leno, yet?

I'm not sure if this counts as this week or next week, but since Sunday generally doesn't get included anyway, I thought I'd put this here. On Sunday the 27th at 9 PM EST, "Ellen's Somewhat Special Special" airs on TBS. According to Entertainment Weekly, John Mulaney is one of the acts featured on this special.
(Right after this, at 10, is the 'Conan's Writers Live' special, btw)

If they are on NBC networks (A&E, Bravo, Sci-Fi, Hallmark, etc) or are in a Universal Studio's film, I excuse it because they're required to. That's why we've seen so many NBC'rs on as of late, because that's kind of all they can get.

It is what it is. We all need to get over it and hope Leno gets in an accident in one of his cars that has a WWI era bayonet for a steering column.

Nope! All comedians should sabotage their careers because of an unrelated decision some network executives made! That's an order!

Saying, "No, thank you," when asked to be a guest on Leno is "sabotaging [one's] career?"

And I understand the network association explanation (you gotta promote, and sometimes that means being on the local morning news and/or Leno)

But what if your brand new show is about to premiere on a cable network owned by a rival of NBC? Like ABC, or CBS?

Wait, does FOX have a cable channel?

It's sabotaging your career when the network suit-wearing guys are the ones telling you to do it. I don't think Leno's calling them and asking them to be a pal and come over.

TV Guide is telling me Louis CK is on Lopez Thursday, not Friday.

    Mod edit: That's correct. Fixed.

Well, speaking as a comedian, that's a pretty huge credit. Millions of people see the Tonight Show. Putting it on your resume is a major credibility boost with club bookers, casting directors, agents, managers, etc. across the nation. It's not as huge as it used to be in the '80s, certainly... but it's pretty huge.

Moreover, if you have the opportunity to increase your visibility like that and choose not to, all those people will (quite rightly) question your dedication to your career as a comedian, your dedication to promoting whatever projects you're working on (if applicable), and your general level of professionalism.

Conversely, I suppose you have to take into account the fact that at some point in the past, some people you don't know personally decided to employ one guy you don't know personally instead of another guy you don't know personally to do a job you were never in the running for -- in a decision that actually had nothing whatsoever to do with you.

I mean, that's a weighty concern, except that... well, it isn't actually, is it? I mean, it's certainly not your weighty concern. I mean, if you're Conan O'Brien and they're trying to book you on the Tonight Show, it might be your concern.

Of course, if you're Conan O'Brien, your career is going well enough that you probably don't need the publicity.

Fair enough, but when it truly comes down to it:

Meadows shouldn't go on Ferguson, and he fucking knows it.

All of this would make sense if Louis CK was a brand new comedian just starting out, but he's very well established now and already has a career. Plus he already has the show on FX, it's not like they're going to take it away from him if he doesn't do The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. And Conan is not a "guy he doesn't know personally"- Louis is very good friends with Conan, and he was one of the original writers on Conan's show when it first went on the air. I guess people are questioning why he would choose to do Leno's show instead of, say, Letterman.

Dunno if you've read this, it's an article about Louis CK's (very interesting) take on the Conan/Leno debacle.

He's doing the show because of the FX show, not in spite of it.

Re: Who's on What This Week

Ah, Louis CK. I didn't know we were talking specifically about him. Well, he probably has his reasons -- it's certainly not anyone's place to second-guess what he's doing, because you don't know what's happening with him, and his career, and whatever personal/professional connections he may or may not have with people. I'm sure his first goal is making sure his show gets enough viewers to be successful -- which is as it should be. Maybe he'll do Letterman, or Conan's upcoming show, or both later. I mean, they'll all probably book him. He's Louis CK.
