The sci-fi comedy "The Watch" is out today in theaters. The film, which stars Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, and British comedian Richard Ayoade ("Garth Marenghi's Darkplace", "The IT Crowd") in his US movie debut, concerns a group of dads who form a suburban neighborhood watch group that serves as a front for them to get some male bonding time away from their families. The guys then find themselves in over their heads when they uncover an alien plot to destroy the world.
The movie was directed by Akiva Schaffer, of the comedy group The Lonely Island, in a followup to his 2007 directing effort, the perennial cult favorite "Hot Rod". The script, which had been circulating around Hollywood for a while, was rewritten by screenwriting team Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg ("Superbad", "Pineapple Express") in order to turn it into more of an R-rated, adult-oriented comedy. The film also costars Billy Crudup and Will Forte.
