This sounds insane but I think I actually want Woody Allen to die soon. Not because of this but because I got to read some excerpts from his personal notes that are supposedly going to be released posthumously. Was downright amazing. I think I'm looking forward to those more than this movie.
I'm sure Salinger hates everyone so you're not too far off the mark there.
PS. I'm not really saying that I want to see Woody Allen die...I'm just saying that the guy's thought process is insanely interesting.
I gotta give both Woody and Larry points for the fact that the latter doesn't just sound like a mouthpiece for the former here, like so many other leads in Woody Allen movies over the years. This felt like a good meshing of the two guys' voices (they're not too far apart to begin with, I guess). And while the religious stuff looked lame as lame can be, I actually laughed at a couple of things, like the "I've never played for the Yankees" line at the end. (Woody Allen is the master of dumb broad jokes!)
Yeah, I get the impression from the trailer that Woody can write a really funny character for Larry to play. The thing that made Vicky Cristina Barcelona so great was that he was able to develop such an interesting and hilarious character for Penelope Cruz. Let's hope we see something just as original and interesting here.
Woody Allen is such an anachronism at this point. He's not evolving or doing anything new and it's painful to watch. It's a shame, because he's truly one of my favorite all-time comedic voices.
16 seconds into the trailer...
BLACK PEOPLE IN A WOODY ALLEN MOVIE?
The world's coming to an end.
The only good Woody Allen movies since he gave up acting were the ones where he didn't have someone painfully trying to be him. There is no one else who can pull off Woody Allen but Woody Allen. David and Allen seem like a perfect match but the subtleties between their neurosis is about 10 miles wide. Allen's neurosis with the human race comes from despair and David's is spawned by hate.
Yeah, the second-to-last last line in the trailer; "...whatever happiness you can provide, whatever temporary bit of grace..." is pretty optimistic and sweet.
I know the Woodman's got one more good comedy in him. I'm hoping this is it.
