"Spider-Man: The Short Halloween," by Bill Hader and Seth Meyers, Out in Two Weeks

"Spider-Man: The Short Halloween," a one-shot written by current Saturday Night Live writers/cast members Bill Hader and Seth Meyers, is out today on May 27th. The issue, which was first conceived during the writers' strike of '07-'08, deals with the hero getting mixed up with a civilian in a Spider-Man costume on Halloween. "The Short Halloween" (the title a play on Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's seminal "Batman: The Long Halloween") features art by Kevin Maguire ("Justice League"). It is the first foray into comics for both writers.

I think you might be right, Scott - the source I was using said the 13th, but it now looks like the 27th (although I'm also seeing the 20th on a couple sites, as well). Can't trust it until it's in your hands, I guess. I second the question - anyone get it?

    There's a 10 page preview here:

Odd, wonder if it's a dialogueless story.

Maybe they took the dialogue out so you will still buy the comic.

Yeah, it's certainly possible, I guess removing the dialogue is just something that wouldn't occur to me to do.

I kind of like the idea of it not having dialogue, reminds me of some of the neat work Jim Steranko did on Nick Fury.

It doesn't come out until tomorrow, at least in the US. Would have been out today but the holiday weekend pushed comic delivery to Thursday this week.

    Edit: Yeah, what darryl said.

I got it. It's pretty good. Not great.

I agree. Pretty bland and fratty, but there's a few amusing ideas for sure. Definitely not the absurdist humor I think everyone expected from Hader, though there is a goofy villain team called the Furious Five (they acknowledge the Kung Fu Panda connection - in fact, that's pretty much their whole joke). I'd say it's worth buying since it's a one-shot, and therefore cheap and easy.

I'm sorry... "Fratty?" What's this? You mean it's like the comic version of "American Pie?"
