Little late for East-coasters (sorry!), but everyone else should keep in mind that Jay Leno's bid to bring his five-nights-a-week brand of broadly appealing comedy to prime-time begins tonight at 10pm on NBC. Kicking off with Jerry Seinfeld, Jay-Z, Rihanna and a fresh-off-his-VMA-controversy Kanye West won't hurt in the ratings department -- expect a "What were you thinking" redux on that last front. Will Jay win back the respect of comedy aficionados that he lost in the Late Night Talk Show Wars of the early '90s? Will he survive against the stiffer competition that prime-time brings? Will he help revive mainstream interest in stand-up comedy? Will he, if nothing else, deliver a funny show? None of these questions will be fully answered tonight obviously, but for better or worse, this is the start of something...
