Paul Feig to direct UK series "Ronna & Beverly"

Paul Feig, director of "Bridesmaids" and co-creator of the classic TV series "Freaks & Geeks", will direct "Ronna & Beverly", a six-part mock talk show featuring two fifty-something Jewish American mothers who ask blunt questions of real guests and offer advice those guests probably don’t need. The series, which will be for the UK satellite channel Sky Atlantic HD, features writer/performers Jessica Chaffin and Jamie Denbo as the title characters. The duo got the series after a series of critically acclaimed stage shows in the UK and the US. Feig’s US-based Classy Productions is producing with Hat Trick Productions in the UK. The pilot episode will feature "Mad Men" star Jon Hamm and "Episodes" star Stephen Mangan as the first guests.

Very exciting! They did a great pilot for Showtime a few years ago that they instead aired as a special.

Hopefully some channel in the US will pick this up as well, maybe IFC can air the episodes similar to how they aired Todd Margaret at the same time as the UK.

In case anyone is interested, here is the guest run-down for the 6 episodes. The first episode was a little boring, but that's probably because the guests weren't that interesting. Things should improve with episode 2, certainly. (Will probably be available online sometime today)

I know we all know what Jamie Denbo looks like in real life, and that she's much more attractive obviously than when she is in character on this show, but I never really noticed what Jessica Chaffin looks like when she is not in character until I was looking on the UCB site just now:



It's quite a transformation with hair and costuming how they can make her look so much older.

This show is grrrrreat.

I was fortunate to see it live in New York when they had PFT and Michael Showalter on and Beverly downed a whole package of brownies during the show. It was quite spectacular.
