Patton Oswalt's "My Weakness is Strong" Airs Tonight on Comedy Central

Patton Oswalt's new stand-up special, "My Weakness is Strong”, debuts on Comedy Central tonight, Sunday, Aug. 23rd, at 10:00 PM EST/PST. Encore presentations are scheduled to air Monday, August 24th at 12:30 a.m. and Tuesday, September 1st at 7:00 p.m.

In this all-new, one hour special, Oswalt turns potentially drab topics like depression and weight gain into laugh-out-loud anecdotes, explaining why he can't be around Lucky Charms and LSD at the same time and making a cogent case for why flying in a plane is like peeing in God's face. In conjunction with the special, a CD/DVD release of "My Weakness Is Strong" will be coming out on Tuesday, Aug. 25 on Degenerate/Warner Bros. Records. Those with access to Itunes may have already heard the album, as iTunes received a one-week digital audio exclusive and it is currently sitting at #3 on iTunes’ overall Top Albums chart.

Oswalt will be continuing to prove his "strength" this month on the big screen in the lead role in Big Fan, his dramatic debut as an obsessed New York Giants fan, from writer/director Robert Siegel (The Wrestler).

more yumitree aspect ratio gripes: we still don't have cchd in our area (does anyone yet), but i've noticed that lately they've been letterboxing a lot of the films they've been airing (presumably since the hd versions are airing on the hd channel), but they still showed this special p/s. it isn't really a big deal for a stand-up special, but there were a few obvious cropped shots, including the production company logo at the end.
i shouldn't be too surprised since they've been showing all of their original 16x9/hd programming as cropped pan & scan bullshit, but it really gets under my skin.

a previous episode of "yumitree aspect ratio gripes" on the new season/home of "project runway" was pre-empted by a showing "obscure music list theatre."

Awesome. As a developing comedian I am insanely jealous of this man's prowess-but then I lost my Salieri moment when Oswalt made the Barack Hussein Obama joke.

The DVD, in addition to the "bonus" tracks on 1999 and Jet Blue, also includes a fake infomercial (with appearances by Galifianakis, Joe DeRosa, Jon Glaser, Paul F. Tompkins); there's an homage of sorts to The Room, with performances by Julie Klausner and Mad Men's Jon Hamm as Oswalt plays writer/director Alfan Golenpaul, enticing you to invest your money in his awful movies; and you also get more than five minutes of Oswalt making fun of the way some stand-up comedians open their specials by role-playing this very process with his director, Jason Woliner. You'll enjoy it!

The CD is of course very funny, but one thing bothers me- Patton talks about going back in time 10 years, to meet the Patton Oswalt of 1999. He then tells himself about how Clinton is going to get a BJ and get impeached- but all of that happened in 1998.
It's nitpicky, I know, but if he didn't so clearly say "1999" in the bit, it wouldn't be so glaringly obvious of a mistake.

This was thrilling to watch as I was at the taping, but waaay in the back so it was great to get to see up close what was, for me at the time, a tiny ant-person acting out these jokes on stage.

But was there a single joke the bleeping didn't render near-inert, or at least really step on? Maybe I've been spoiled by listening to the album on repeat for the last week uncensored, but I really wish they would have just premiered this on the "Secret Stash" (Ugh, I feel stupid just typing that).

I guess the Halloween bit remains relatively unscathed, remarkably, since it's in some ways the most fucked up joke of the bunch.

It's kind of like if you had a joke where you said "I'm going to go back in time to 1964 to prevent JFK from being assassinated!" No, it doesn't ruin the joke completely, but it does cause you to stop and go "Wait, what?"

last night my provider added comedy central hd (and a bunch of other channels) to their lineup.

This might be alerting for the moderators (?). It seems that when I click on this thread sometimes there's a big popup window saying that I should update my Flashplayer. The popup looks very legit but it's source is secureupdatehost.com which looks fishy (and you have to close the tab down, can't close the popup window).

I think it's from this thread/site anyway, it's happened three times in today. That domain was registered just today also.

i just purchased the album on itunes. is it different from the special/dvd? am i missing something if i dont buy both? cd+dvd+big fan. it's patton oswalt week in my wallet.
