The Other Guys (Next Ferrell/McKay movie)

Will Ferrell told Collider.com that he's getting ready to work with Adam McKay again this fall on a buddy cop movie called "The B-Team" - which Adam co-wrote with Chris Henchy ("Land of the Lost").

The film is set to star Will and Mark Wahlberg as two desk cops that never get in on the action. Will's character is fine with it, but Mark's is not. According to Will, "The B-Team" will be rated PG-13. Here's what he had to say (video after the break)...

Wahlberg/Ferrel seems like a fun combination.

Only if the Wahlberg character is Bob Lee Swagger.

You're the guy who said you'd see anything with Piven, right? We have nothing in common.

It's obviously not a lot of info to go on, but I'm wondering if co-writing with the "Land of the Lost" guy (never mind casting Mark Wahlberg) signifies a move in a more mainstream direction for Team Ferrell/McKay... Which could be a bummer considering how much I liked Step Brothers (and how indifferent I am to LotL), but could be interesting considering their movies almost always lack a sturdy and engaging plot. What if it's as funny as Anchorman, but with a coherent story backing that up? That'd be cool.

I think that is a strong "what if?" on that last part. I am obviously going to reserve my judgement until a trailer, but I am already skeptical. Especially with the "Land of the Lost" guy attached, nothing in those trailers looked like something I wanted to watch. I was having flashbacks to "Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D."

Co-writing with the LotL guy can't be a good thing. That movie doesn't look good.

Me too! The way it was co-written by a guy who co-wrote a movie I didn't like the look of the trailer of? Awful!

Chris Henchy was a co-founder of Funny or Die with McKay and Ferrell. There are individual lines in LOTL that are funny. The problem is just that the guys behind "Funny or Die" should not be writing a kid's movie about dinosaurs.
If this movie is aimed at adults (although it's PG-13), it should be fine.

I hope, someday, that we as a people will reach a level of tolerance and understanding that allows us to not hold every last screen credit against a Hollywood writer. It's a crazy business, filmmaking, and no one at the creative level has less control over the final product than the person/people who wrote the screenplay.

But that make it wrong to be a tad skeptical? Obviously, you have to make your real judgement on the final project but it is impossible to not make some sort of first impression. I mean, I hope that "Land of the Lost" proves me wrong when I see it.

Maybe it is more a marketing thing this time around? I think that might account for a lot of the reservations that we're having.

EDIT: I didn't see his post before, but I think Brasky hit the nail right on the head.

Skeptical of what, exactly? The implication by the fact they're making it that they think it's worthwhile?

I was talking more about Land of The Lost's general tone. Or at least what I felt it to be from what I have seen. Obviously no one is going to put out a project they feel isn't worth people's time.

I think isoS is the one who hit it on the head with his post. You know Lennon and Garant wrote the Jimmy Fallon / Queen Latifah movie "Taxi," right? And you've seen "Run Ronnie Run" right?

Re: The Other Guys (Next Ferrell/McKay movie)

This movie is now called "The Other Guys".

    From Variety:

Dwayne Johnson, Samuel L. Jackson and Steve Coogan will star in the Columbia Pictures comedy The Other Guys, to be directed by Adam McKay.

Johnson and Jackson will play super cops in the film. Coogan is set as the villain. They join the previously-announced Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Eva Mendes, Michael Keaton and Damon Wayans Jr.

Johnson and Jackson will play an elite cop tandem whose exploits are the envy of the department and the second-tier fellow cops played by Ferrell and Wahlberg.

The movie was written by Chris Henchy and McKay.

Rob Riggle and Craig Robinson have also just been mentioned to have supporting roles in this.
