Variety.com just ran a story about Louis C.K.'s FX pilot that cites unnamed "insiders" who believe the show (working title: "Louie") will be ordered to series. FX will be making decisions on two comedy pilots within the next 10 days (the other, "The League," was co-created by "Seinfeld" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm" alum Jeff Schaffer). Beyond that encouraging news, the article sheds a bit more light on the stand-up/scripted hybrid, which Louie wrote, cast, directed and edited for $250,000:
The pilot includes two stories: In one vignette, "Louie" must volunteer at his kids' school, and things go horribly wrong when he chaperones a field trip. In another bit, he goes on a terrible date.
"It's a unified stream of conciousness," [C.K.] said of the show. "It all comes from me being a 41-year-old divorced comic trying to raise children, meet people and have sex."
FX is scheduled to present its "comedy strategy" to entertainment writers at the TV Critics Association press tour tomorrow, so stay tuned...
