"Last Comic Standing" Season 7 starts tonight

After two years off the air, "Last Comic Standing" returns tonight to NBC, slightly revamped and with a new host, Craig Robinson of TV's "The Office". From the looks of previews, the focus this season will be less on goofy reality show-style "challenges" or forcing comedians into living in a house or on a boat together, and more on a straight ahead stand up comedy competition.

You can't go wrong with the new judges either: comedians Greg Giraldo, Andy Kindler, and Natasha Leggero, all veterans of the business (and two of them "AST-approved"!) Tonight's two-hour premiere will showcase the Los Angeles auditions, with the winner eventually receiving an exclusive talent deal with NBC and $250,000. Tune in tonight and "be about it", to quote Robinson's made-up catchphrase for the show.

Is this first episode going to be like the first episodes of any season of American Idol in that a bunch of gimmick artists and crazy people make fools of themselves before they're weeded out in favor of people who at least kind of sort of know what they're doing?

JAAAAAAAAAAAAAMES ADOMIAN FOR THE WIN! I mean, tons of comics I like (Chris Fairbanks, Chip Pope, blah blah blah) have been on, but I feel like if James doesn't win, something is wrong with our government.

Since they're not showing any of the deliberations, you have to wonder if the decision-making process includes establishing a certain quota of "name" performers to unknown linestanders. I'm sure a lot of it genuinely depends on how well they did on that particular night in front of that particular crowd, but as an entertainment program in the reality mode they'd be kind of nuts not to ensure at least a few completely new faces get into the mix.

Congrats to James, Chip, Jason, Laurie! The only thing I disagree with is bummer about Rob Delaney, he made my tv extremely handsome. Now I watched it and didn't mind it except for all the bullshit filler. I still think I'm going to call and vote for Fairbanks.

So did Jimmy not make the cut? I didnt see him on stage with the rest of the not-so-luckies after the cut.

If Jimmy's out I'm putting all my bucks on Adomian, cause he has that thing that makes me laugh irregardless of what he is saying.

Also I liked the tall fellow with the moustache who looks like a stretched out Jason Lee... he seems funny. Didn't catch his name.

In addition: LA people, at what club did they film the showcases, the LA Improv?
