Jon Hamm to star in improvised film with Larry David

Film website Showbiz411 reports that "Mad Men" star Jon Hamm is about to sign on to play Larry David’s nemesis in the still-being-worked out improv film David is set to shoot this fall. The film, currently untitled, will star David as a Larry David-like character – but with a different name. He’ll get into the same kind of situations as David often does on “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Greg Mottola is directing, and the “script-ment” –a script-slash-treatment – is being worked up by David and “Curb” and “Seinfeld” writers Alec Berg, Jeff Schaffer and David Mandel. Fox Searchlight will distribute. All of this is still in planning stages, which means it will be some time before we see another season of “Curb” on HBO.

This movie is now called Clear History , and it's amassing quite a cast:

Larry David plays Nathan Flomm, who changes his identity to Rolly DaVore and moves to a small island off the coast of Massachusetts after giving up 10% of an electric car company that eventually is worth billions.

Jon Hamm plays Will Haney, Flomm's handsome rival and boss at the car company.

Kate Hudson plays Rhonda, Haney's wife who has a special friendship with Flomm.

Michael Keaton plays Joe Stumpo, the zany operator of the island's quarry.

Bill Hader plays Rags, Stumpo's henchman who agrees to help Rolly.

JB Smoove plays Jaspar, a local who blames Rolly for the end of his relationship.

Danny McBride plays Frank, an island local who befriends Rolly.

Eva Mendes plays Jennifer, an island resident who "takes an off-handed suggestion from Rolly a bit too seriously, causing Rolly no end of trouble."

Amy Ryan plays Wendy, Rolly's ex-girlfriend, who Rolly finds out has an adult secret.

Phillip Baker Hall plays McKenzie, the boss at a construction site who naively hires Rolly.

The film will shoot this fall in Massachusetts and premiere on HBO.

David stars as Nathan, a hipster marketing exec who sells all his shares at a start-up over a fight with his boss (Jon Hamm, left), only to miss out on billions when the company’s new product—an electric car—becomes a smashing success.

“It ruins his life,” says director Greg Mottola (Superbad), who explains that the comedy then picks up a decade after a humiliated Nathan changes his name and goes incognito.

The movie—which also stars Bill Hader, Kate Hudson, Eva Mendes, Danny McBride, Michael Keaton and more—was almost entirely improvised. “It’s all about capturing spontaneity,” says Mottola, who adds that the film is loosely based on the tribulations of an Apple employee mentioned in Walter Isaacson’s Steve Jobs book. “The lightning in a bottle stuff that if you have really fun people happens more than you expect.”
