"John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show" returns tonight to Comedy Central

The second season of "John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show" premieres tonight at midnight on Comedy Central.

"New York Stand-Up Show” features new stand-up from some more of Oliver's favorite comedians. Oliver opens each of the six episodes with original material and introduces four comedians during the hour. Maria Bamford, Greg Behrendt, David Koechner, Kirk Fox, Al Madrigal and Pete Holmes will close each of their episodes with super-sized stand-up sets. The complete line-up boasts new stand-up from Anthony Jeselnik, Brendon Walsh, Deon Cole, Glenn Wool, Jen Kirkman, Kumail Nanjiani, Kyle Kinane, Marina Franklin, Mike Lawrence, Moshe Kasher, Rory Albanese, Rory Scovel and Tommy Johnagin.

On tonight's premiere, Oliver kicks off the season with a harrowing story of a flight diversion to Hanover, Germany and a thorough defense of the importance of swearing. Joining him on the premiere are Kyle Kinane, Glenn Wool and Rory Scovel. Pete Holmes ends the episode with a triumphant closing set.

Looking forward to soooo many of these sets - especially Mike Lawrence's first televised appearance. Should be great!

And John Oliver's been talking Lawrence up in all of his interviews for the new season.

Really glad this show is back. The first season was great. It was where I first saw Matt Braunger. The Eggly Bagelface bit was the best first impression any comic has ever made on me.

Went to the Maria Bamford and Dave Koechner tapings earlier this year; really fantastic stuff. Deon Cole did sets on both shows and killed.

I really enjoyed Pete Holmes, I've never seen him before, but I sort of wish Kyle had gotten the longest set.

    Rory Scovel was amazing too.

So glad to see Glenn Wool on T.V. Like a lot of previous comments, I just wish they had kept more of his set.

In the first season, a bunch of comics were in more than one episode, Hannibal, Nick Kroll, Braunger, Bamford, etc. I'm hoping Wool and Kinane show up again. I can never get enough of Kyle Kinane! Between this, his half hour presents and the appearance on MASH UP, glad he's all the exposure that's out there!

Kinane was awesome. Oliver was almost as good - even if he hasn't changed his clothes since the pilot episode of season one.

Wool was mostly good but Scovel was disappointing - especially that sleeping Jesus bit which was waaaaaaay too long, like he worked on the timing while practicing on front of drunk frat boys.

I like Pete (no relation) but wish some of his "superset" had been transplanted into Kinane's and Wool's time.

Kyle will definitely be in the Al Madrigal episode. I don't think Glenn's gonna be in another one though.

Yup, both Kyle and Glenn did two episodes. As did Marina Franklin, Deon Cole, Brendon Walsh and me. Its fun to have a show that's so loose that you get to do more than one episode. Probably the best tapings I've ever seen or been a part of.

Maria Bamford needs to be the official spokesperson for Diet Coke.

Glad to hear it Kumail, and I look forward to seeing your episodes. By the way, I mentioned Kinane on Mash Up earlier, your set was great as well. The special as a whole was spectacular. Such a creative way to do a stand up show and the fact that you're all from Chicago(where I'm from) just makes it even better!

Man, this show is so good. I love the unbiased mix of bigger names with up-and-comers like Pete Holmes and Moshe Kasher... I really hope we get a DVD release some time in the future.

Bammer killed it the other night. Maybe the best set I've seen her do on TV (and she looks better than ever). It always cracks me up that Blossom has the same voice as Monster from "Me, My Mom, and A Monster!" Maybe Blossom IS the monster!?!

    Kumail: 1 segment
    Jen: 1 segment
    Kinane: 1 segment
    Al Madrigal: 3 segments

    Something is amiss.

Doggonit everyone! It's all over, already?! I didn't even see the last episode. What now? Wait for a DVD? We all know Comedy Central won't rerun this. (to busy rerunning South Park and Dane Cook... where this countries mind is at apparently)

It's on itunes, and it'll be on demand in a few weeks (if it's not already available) Nice Dane Cook slam though, it would probably be more relevant 2 or 3 years ago.
