"It's Garry Shandling's Show" Complete Series Coming to DVD

Shout! Factory, in collaboration with Garry Shandling, has announced an October 20, 2009 release date for The Complete Series of "It's Garry Shandling's Show." The DVD box set will be comprised of 16 DVDs, featuring the complete 72 episodes from the entire four seasons, a payload of bonus content and much more - all collected in a lavish package. Garry Shandling and Shout! Factory are currently developing a wide range of in-depth bonus content, including extensive featurettes, commentaries, outtakes and more. [ TV Shows on DVD ]

While not as beloved as its co-creator and star's second series, "The Larry Sanders Show," "It's Garry Shandling's Show" was groundbreaking for its time. A surreal look at the daily life of a young single man who's a comedian, it experimented with the sitcom form, and pioneered a meta style of television comedy (including its hilariously self-referential theme song) that proved influential on AST favorites like "Seinfeld," "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Arrested Development." Co-created by Shandling and Saturday Night Live's Alan Zweibel, the practically legendary writing staff included Tom Gammill & Max Pross ("Seinfeld"), Al Jean & Mike Reiss ("The Simpsons"), David Mirkin ("The Simpsons," "Get a Life") and Ed Solomon (Men in Black). Now all we need is for this to be so stunningly successful that the powers that be will have no choice but to release "The Larry Sanders Show" complete box set and we're set.

I LOVED this show when it was new and I was young. Comedy Central re-ran it about 10 years ago (???) and it seemed REALLY dated. I'd be curious to see it again, but not 16 discs worth of curious. It feels like a chore trying to make it through a LOT of these DVD sets of old TV shows. I kinda think "It's Garry Shandling's Show" should get the "best of" treatment that "Larry Sanders" has been stuck with.

One episode in particular that I'd like to see again featured Paul Feig as (and I'm going from memory here) an idiot who has a stupid idea for a sit-com (two guys with the same first and last name trying to share an apartment) that becomes a huge hit and pisses Garry off.
