Golden Globe nominations announced: "Hangover", "30 Rock", "Modern Family" get noms

The nominations for the 2010 Golden Globe Awards were announced this morning, and there were some surprising first-time nominations, especially in the comedy categories. In the category of "Best Television Series- Comedy or Musical", previously nominated series "30 Rock", "The Office" and "Entourage" will be going up against freshman series "Modern Family" and "Glee". Alec Baldwin and Steve Carell are nominated again for best actor in a comedy, against David Duchovny for "Californication", Thomas Jane for "Hung", and Matthew Morrison for "Glee". Tina Fey competes for best actress in a comedy against Toni Collette for "United States of Tara", Courteney Cox for "Cougar Town", Edie Falco for "Nurse Jackie", and Lea Michele for "Glee".

Meanwhile, the nominations for best comedy film are "(500) Days of Summer", "The Hangover", "It's Complicated", "Julie & Julia" and "Nine". No nomination for Zach Galifianakis, unfortunately; he was pushed out of the Best Actor in a Comedy category by Matt Damon ("The Informant"), Daniel Day-Lewis ("Nine") , Robert Downey, Jr. ("Sherlock Holmes"), Joseph Gordon-Levitt ("(500) Days of Summer"), and Michael Stuhlbarg ("A Serious Man").

For a complete listing of the nominations, go to the Golden Globe website here. The awards will air January 17th on NBC, with host Ricky Gervais.

And of course, Party Down is completely ignored. Of course.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Funny People and Bruno were probably better than 'It's Complicated'...

I love DDL but was he really funnier than Zach? In a musical?

It's not about whether he was funnier, that category is just musical or comedy. It is also a dumb category.

It's best performance in a musical or comedy, not funniest performance in a movie. This didn't matter until Hwd started making one marquee musical a year just to win these awards.

Also, Zach was probably positioned for supporting actor, but that's even tougher since you're up against the drama guys too.

Yeah, it's even more confusing because Robert Downey Jr. is in that category for "Sherlock Holmes", which doesn't appear to me to be a musical or a comedy.

Jane Lynch is a big ommission here, especially since they nominated Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison (???) for "Glee". I guess they didn't want to nominate two actresses for "Glee", but I would argue that Lynch has a lot more to do with the popularity and success of that show than Michele does.

Maybe Rbt Downey Jr. is just automatically funny to the foreign press no matter what he's doing. Come to think of it, that might go for me as well.

Jane Lynch was probably in the supporting actress role for glee. She's not even really in every episode of that show, so it wouldn't make sense to nominate her as a lead.

Also, I read Rbt Downey Jr. as Robot Downey Jr., and now I want to see him play a robot in a movie. Like Bicentennial Man, except nothing like Bicentennial Man.

You're right, Lynch is actually nominated for supporting actress in a TV series. I forgot that the lead actor/actress categories are split up between comedy and drama, but the supporting actor/actress categories aren't.

I don't want to sound cook'd nor bomb'd but Ricky seems a bit gross in those adverts.

My bad. For some reason i thought it was just for comedy. But just for the record, DDL is not funnier than Zach.

I'm sick of hearing how funny Sherlock Holmes is and how great Courtney David Arquette is because seriously I cant get anything done around here because "people I know" wont stop plying me with this very important and accurate information!!!

Could Flight of the Conchords of been nominated for Best Musical or Comedy this year for their second season? If so...why not? They are musical and comedy, and better than entourage.
