    "The Comedy Awards" nominations announced

Comedy Central has announced the nominations for the first annual "Comedy Awards", which will air on Sunday, April 10th simultaneously on Comedy Central, Spike, TV Land, VH1 and Nick at Night. “30 Rock”, “Eastbound & Down”, “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”, “Modern Family” and “The Office” will compete for Best Comedy Series, while the nominees for Best Comedy Film are “Cyrus”, “Easy A”, “Get Him to the Greek”, “Kick-Ass” and“The Other Guys”.
"Louie" joins "Modern Family", "30 Rock", "The Simpsons" and "The Office" in being nominated for best comedy writing in a TV series, while "Community" is nominated only in the best directing category.

The awards ceremony will also recognize other forms of comedy on television, including Best Sketch Comedy/Alternative Comedy Series ("“Childrens Hospital”, "Funny or Die Presents”, “Saturday Night Live”, “Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!” and “Tosh.0”)
and Best Stand-Up Special (Aziz Ansari, Bill Maher, Louis CK, Ricky Gervais, and Whitney Cummings are all nominated). Conan O'Brien was not nominated in the late night comedy series category, although this awards ceremony is intended to recognize comedy programs produced in 2010, and O'Brien was not on the air for much of last year.

I'm more about "Delocated" not being recognized in any category.

Yeah, "Delocated" could have definitely gone in the Sketch/Alternative category over "Tosh.0" (What is that show an "alternative" to? Besides being a poorer alternative to "Web Soup")

Most of the nominations look good. Obviously very happy for Louie and I hope he wins for that one...

Whitney Cummings is good on roasts but her stand up was really not my thing. Really typical "right, ladies? you know what I'm sayin?" humor and I found it shrill and unoriginal. Cosmo jokes and talking about how hard it is to suck a dick. Bleh. (Sorry)

I wonder about the need for the animated movie category but I guess if you have an animated tv show category, it makes sense.

Wish Parks & Rec were on there instead of The Office.

I totally agree. I like Whitney personally, and she's great at roasts, but I'm not interested in laughing about how mens' balls look old, or the odd BJ joke. She comes close to a jaded version of that female comedian impression Bammer does on stage. (But to be fair - I'm going on seeing her at the Improv and Chelsea Lately. I did not see her comedy special).

Wish there were a stand-up album category and a comedy podcast category.

I would then require a sub-category for podcasts: paid vs free.

    hey now. wink wink wink.

Especially since Comedy Central owns a record label.

Hmm, "Stand-Up Special" is a bit vague; i agree about the exclusion of a Stand-Up "albums". Why should it matter if the Stand-Up is video recorded or not? (especially considering Hannibal....)

Well, considering some of the other shows that did make the "Best Comedy Series" category, i'm not surprised. (not to poop on anything, but "Delocated" has kind of an "eccentric" comedic style)

I thought it was pretty good; also, they probably felt obliged to add a female comedian to the nominees. There's also the matter of trying to include nominees for everyones sense of humor

Yeah, how is there no comedy album category? Either way, no nomination for Bill Fuckin' Burr's special??? I don't know what the date cut-off was, admittedly.

Wow, award shows really are irresistible, aren't they? When I saw the first ad for this I was like "Really? A comedy central version of the fucking Espies?" But then, sure enough, you look at the nominees and you go "hey, what about..." and next thing you know you've forgotten that this event redefines pointlessness.

Re: "The Comedy Awards" nominations announced

I did not enjoy due date much at all, so i agree with that miss, but Get him to the greek?
I seriously hate that movie. I wanted to see macgruber on there

    delocated
parks and rec (this season is better than 30 rock and the office, i seem to remember last season was too- which are both better than most of the list)
party down (how about a ken marino nomination damnit)
this last season of east bound and down was not good, im sorry. that has no business being on there
ricky gervais show probably should have been under animated. American dad? really?

happy with aziz, lck, gervias in the specials, one of them better fucking win.

oops i forgot these award means about as much as that participant ribbon i got at the bike rodeo

awards are a waste of time

they're another garbage constellation in a shit culture galaxy, joining the likes of TMZ, pregnant teen reality shows, and a shell game of a political system

What, no Jeff Dunham? Glad "Children's Hospital" made the list. Easy A was a funny film, but why MacGruber missed the list is only confusing until you think about what a cable-friendly CC edit of that will look like. And why Kick-Ass (which was OK) but not Scott Pilgrim (which was great)? The Simpsons and Office for best writing? We all know those formerly great shows are dead in the water. Give the new shows a chance (Louie was robbed). Too many safe choices, but still, these nominations could have been worse…

And Tosh's internet clip show, as fun as it is, has been done much better IMHO by a fellow at Cracked.com, Michael Swain.
