    Re: 2012 Emmy nominations announced

When the season started with the dude ranch episode and especially the first couple episodes with the new Lily, I was a little worried about MF going downhill too. But I think around the time that they introduced David Cross's character and the whole angle of Claire running for city council, the season started to become really good. I think the scenes in the "Little Bo Bleep" episode with the kids helping Claire prepare for her debate were some of the funniest moments of the season. There were a string of really good episodes in the second half of the season ("Virgin Territory", "The Last Walt", "Tableau Vivant"), and the season finished up really strong as you said with the Cam/Mitchell wanting to have a baby subplot. I think the only cast member who has gotten a little annoying is the kid who plays Manny, his character has become a little tiresome but that's a minor complaint. I think Sarah Hyland and especially Ariel Winter got a lot of chances to shine this season, it's too bad they weren't nominated too.

Modern Family is a really good show, but this season they started adding those segments at the end, where it's like a lesson or saccharine moment. Maybe it was there the first two seasons and I didnt notice, but it ends the show on a bad moment to me. Sweetness is a feature of the show and I think it helps it stand out, but it seems cloying to have a heartwarming non-comedic monologue end every episode.
Also, I like Big Bang Theory. Its not great, but I laugh at Jim Parsons and Simon Helberg whenever I watch it. I dont think any of the shows on the Best Comedies are bad at all, they are only not as good as Louie or Parks.

Yeah, I was hoping they'd get something too. Too bad there isn't a "Best Ensemble" award.

If Danny Pudi is never nominated for Best Supporting Actor, it's about the same level of travesty as The Wire never being nominated for Best Drama Series.

Considering this is probably Community's last season, I think the chances of Pudi getting a nomination are pretty slim. Hopefully he ends up on a more Emmy-friendly show afterwards.

And it kind of makes sense that The Wire was never nominated. The Emmy voters are predominantly older white men, and The Wire was a predominantly African-American cast that was frankly hard to understand a lot of the time. As amazing as the show was, it was also kind of like work to enjoy it, and the Emmy voters don't reward shows that are work and they don't reward many African-American actors. I'm not saying it was justified, I'm saying that when The Wire was on the air, I never got my hopes up for any nominations. You expect a critically-acclaimed show like Downton Abbey to get nominations. You don't expect a critically-acclaimed show like Battlestar Galactica to get nominated.

It's 3 am and I'm up with a toothache, so I doubt any of this makes any sense.
I obviously have nothing interesting to add to this conversation.

They've been doing the sweet ending thing on MF since the first season I think. I don't mind it so much, as long as the writing on the show remains good and the jokes are funny I don't mind if they want to have some sappy moments like that.

Was it always every episode? I feel like they ended a lot of them with jokes in the past, but maybe I didn't notice for two seasons. If so then I think the writing was worse in 3, maybe, or I'm dumb. One of those.

They do the sappy thing at the end of every episode I can think of and then they usually have a 5-10 second tag that calls back something from earlier in the show.

I love 30 Rock, but Fey and Baldwin need to take a break from being nominated and let some others have their chance to win. (I say this as if it means anything.)

Weird, I guess Portlandia took their place this year. Will be a bummer not seeing the Conan writers' video during the category presentation this year.
