Thread: Are you bipolar or hypomanic?

    Are you bipolar or hypomanic?

...just curious. Seems like lots of creative people are, especially comics. I'm pretty sure I am hypomanic. According to the books I've read, hypomanics are quite funny and clever while they're experience hypomania.

For those who haven't heard of hypomania...

I say I'm depressed because it's easier to explain, but I was actually diagnosed with cyclothymia which is like bipolar disorder, but with very mild, infrequent manic episodes. So it mostly IS just depression, but I have to stay away from caffeine and certain anti-depressants.

And I think depressive types can definitely be hilarious... probably stems from all that depressive realism.

I think I'm the opposite to that: mildly depressed 95% of the time.

It's nice to have a label. I feel better. Then again, I just self-diagnosed—and, therefore, I suck.

I've had treatment for depression and obsessive compulsive disorder (or, "The OC Disorder"). Through medicine and therapy I've gotten to a point where I just consider myself sad and quirky.

Are those the only two options? What if I'm just a moody bitch?

Could be worse. You could combine the two and end up with EddiePepitonia —*depression at 2000 dB.

Check out cyclothymia or hypomania. "Moody" is usually one of those.

I recently got on medication because I think I might be manic depressive (or my friends think so at least). I never really felt manic, but I heard that the "manic" part might not necessarily mean 'hyper' or 'extremely happy' and instead could just be 'contented'.

That never made sense to me, to be manic depressive but only suffer from the depressive part. I don't know if it's a chemical thing or not, I think I have legitimate reasons for being depressed but..meh I dunno.

I guess I was 'manic' a couple hours ago, I had a comedy breakthrough, felt like I just cured polio, and now after winding down from that I feel 'normal'. I know if I stay up too much longer I'll get depressed. Probably start by listening to some mellow music, then transition to sadder music, cue the photos of a girl I loved and lost, watch my favorite part of "Lenny Bruce: Swear to Tell the Truth", think, sigh, and go to bed.

I got slightly bummed out describing the process. It's so much fun being a stand up.

    No hypomania here or bi-polar

But I once thought I was manic-depressive until I recently stopped doing drugs. Now I feel normal again. I'm even more creative.

That's right. Because I have to have a chemical imbalance to be moody. I am done here.
