What Type of Writer Am I?

Hey, I'm new here, I have been writing comedy online for years now in a bunch of blogs and online mags, some ghosting and some not. I also started my own blog recently NY Humor, which basically gives me an outlet for the type of writing I feel I am best at: sarcastic comedy.

I am sure many people have experienced it, but I constantly get email, phone calls, and face to face advice from people who keep telling me to go into comedy. Since my corporate job laid me off earlier this month, I find myself thinking that this may all be happening on purpose.

But what kind of comedy writing would a guy like me do? I know there are screenplays and sitcoms, and I am a polished copywriter also, but I don't have the foggiest clue of how to write a sketch or screenplay, nor do I want to do standup. I suppose writing for standup comics is one thing, but I just don't know what kind of niche I would have a shot at. I figured maybe one of you could offer some suggestion, I love writing for my own blogs, but it takes a ton of work and luck to get a blog even remotely monetarily successful.

    Answered your own question.

Standup, sketch, improv, it's the same situation: ton of work, very little chance of success. Do what you love. There's no failure if you enjoy the journey of it.

    Try this:

Standup comedy is one of the easiest ways to find someone who has a similar sense of humor to yourself, since they are both writing and performing their material. After you find some standup comics who have a similar comedic style, check out what other work they've done, like writing for SNL or doing spec scripts for a TV show. Watch those sketches/episodes and you'll get a feel for how a sense of humor like your own translates into writing for other people.
