would you recommend it for someone going out for their 5th time who tells jokes mainly about dungeons and dragons and black chicks?

the last guy who went up at that open mic on his 5th time onstage and did jokes about d+d and black chicks got a standing ovation and a 6 figure HBO development deal.
How's the audience? Is it full, half, empty? I've never been in town for their open mics but they seem like they would be super fun.

When I did it, it was usually about half-full or more at tip-off. The lead-in at the time was Death By Roo-Roo, which always sold out the theater. A good portion of that audience stuck around for the bonus free comedy, as did many of the comedians who weren't picked for the show. By 3AM the crowd isn't as robust but still decent.
As for jokes, D&D will go over at least a little if they are OK. Jokes about black chicks better be fucking good.

Regardless, you have sufficiently scared me out of talking about my sexual affinity for black women. Which is probably for the better.
Cheers.

it's the best open mic in new york. don't think about it, just go.
Maybe this will be the open mike where all the NY AST comics meet up? Forgetiheardthat?

Sorry Mo, life got crazy and I haven't been able to perform in a little over a month, so I forgot about that. That would be a great one, except for the whole no guaranteed spot thing. Your thoughts?
The LA one is good for an open mic, It was great at Midnight, there were real people, and real drunk people.
The 6PM show is still one of the better open mics. I like the hard light with the music blaring. I hate listening to fellow hacks running the light.
We all suck at this level, so let's follow the rules...ok?

I went to the UCB open mike once and didn't get up.
If you're going specifically for the audience, take the lead-in show into account. When I went there was no lead-in show, and the audience ended up being other comics who came wanting to get up. It honestly felt like 'just another open mike'
I went hoping to see/meet a lot more alternative/experimental comedians, but for the most part, the people who were there were the same people that show up at every other open mike in LA.
Hope that helps,

Can anyone shed some light on the NYC shows? Last open mic I saw on their calendar was Gutbucket last month, but I skipped it to see Florentine (a learning experience nonetheless). Now I can't seem to find anything non-improv related for this month. Is this the norm?
Gutbucket happens every month, but with all the special holiday shows coming up it might not happen until the new year.
