A bringer is a show to which a performer is required to bring a predetermined amount of paying customers in exchange for stage time.

Basically, it is a lot like Dunkin Donuts, except it is a giant scam, and also does not serve donuts.
Erik Charles Nielsen is a moderately funny fellow... right?

I was under the impression that a bringer required you to bring a virgin with for sacrifice to the MC. Is this wrong?

Once you do a bringer, you become a Braunger. Careful now.

Cameron, dead on about the talent at the free mics.

Brief Dispatch on the NYC Open Mic Scene: Seems like there could be a Typhoid Mary situation or the inevitable failure of new years resolutions. I was out of it for a couple weeks (terrible strep) and when I got back in late Feb, all the regulars I had seen and general attendance were not around and was low. But the free mics had some of the regulars and were more packed than the comedy club open mics.

So, yeah... Not looking forward to summer and the influx of college kids.

So it looks like this is how I'm gonna try to attack. NYC guys feel free to help me coordinate this in my head ha.

I'm gonna just do as much as I can Monday and I might try somethin Tuesday earlier (grenwich treehouse at 6:30 had some good commentary, the tenlevin is too late, I'm goin to a concert in brooklyn that night. I'm open to Tuesday thoughts.

    For Monday I'm thinking...
Early to Eastville, then Bar 82 or Laugh Lounge (reasons for 1 or the other?), Drama Store and PIT.

For the early knocking out 2 shows, any thoughts re which tandem might be easier to go back to back with? thanks a ton can't wait to do my first string of mics in nyc.

also. whats the deal with the new york comedy club, lots of positive comments other than the venue itself

    Re: New York Stage Time

Did the two Friday open mics at the Creek & Cave last night, was the liveliest and best-attedend place I've been to yet. And a very nice place to boot.

6 PM mic — random order, 2-3 minutes each.
    8-10 PM mic — sign-up sheet, 5 minutes each.

edit to add: both are free
