New Stand Up Theory Blog Looking for Guest Posters

    Hey everyone,

In the last two weeks I launched a new blog about stand up theory called Premise PUNCH Tag. It was partly inspired by the intellectual discussions I have enjoyed reading on this forum. The purpose of the blog is to explore stand up theory, offer resources to comedians like open mike listings, festivals info, podcast roundups, reviews of books, etc. and also shout outs to famous and not so famous comedians.

It is my hope that over time I can build a resource for new and experienced comics, as well as offer some insights into stand up comedy as an art form for the “layman.” In the spirit of community I am hoping to invite guest posters to create articles on stand up theory that they are interested in exploring. Of course as a bonus you will be able to promote yourself as a comic, as the weekly shout out segment will be dedicated to anyone who takes the time to create a post.

Anyhow, if you have a topic you’d be interested in writing about, please drop me a line: joelbuxton22atgmail.com and I can give you more information. To get an idea of how the blog is coming together you can check it out at http://premisepunchtag.wordpress.com Mondays are theory, Wednesdays are Shout outs and Fridays are resources.

In the upcoming weeks some theory posts that will be appearing are:
    -Stand-up versus salesmanship
    -Stage-time and time travel
    -Modular bits
-Hard consonants and the rule of 3
    -William Strunk Jr. Versus Comedy

The tone is on the academic side, but I try to keep it light and a bit jokey so as not to put people to sleep.

Also feel free to comment on the posts, I am really interested in starting a dialogue on some of these topics, especially considering some of them grew out of discussions on this board.
And of course, comments and criticisms about the content, layout, etc. of the blog would also be appreciated. I am new at this and I’m sure I’ll make some mistakes.

    Thanks,
    Joel Buxton

Thanks for the words of encouragement, guys. I'm about a month ahead of the curve now, it's very tempting to just post everything at once!

    Kudos!
I've been working on a website and many folks have told me to get it up sooner but I'm the same way. Content first, website 2nd. It looks great, pm me what you were thinking regarding contributions and length and I'll see if there's something I could provide that was worth readin.
    I'm sorry ... not sorry.

    Thanks Phil!

Texnixon, I usually aim for about 500 words and then split it to a two parter if I go over, but less than that is fine too. As for topics, I'd suggest if there's something that's caught your imagination and you have put a lot of thought into it, it would be good fodder for a post. Is there anything unique about your geography, style, or personal story of getting into Stand-up that might be useful to share with others? Drop me a line if you think of anything, and if you're really stuck we can brainstorm some topics too.

    Joel
