    LA Open Mic List?

    Hello All,

I have been toying with doing some stand-up for a long time. I have even been working on material for a while. Last night I read Oswalt's interview on this page and I decided I am going to finally find some open mics and try to grind it out for the next few months (before I ship off to Illinois for law school).

I have been looking all over these forums trying to find a definitive open mic thread for the L.A./O.C. area. Perhaps my search-fu is weak, but has this been done? Could someone point me in the right direction, and/or give me some suggestions as to where I could try out my stuff?

Any help is appreciated, and I am apologize if the answer is right under my nose.

    Cheers.
    Ryan

Alan Lebetkin's LA Open Mic List He updates it fairly frequently.

My favs are The Spot and Silverlake Lounge. I wouldn't recommend going to the Improv or Comedy Store for your first open mic. Make sure you get there early to ensure you get a spot. LA open mics can get very busy. Nothing sucks worse than making the trip and not getting on the list.

Awesome. This is exactly what I was looking for. So you would recommend those places for first timers? Have you done any of the coffee shops (Coffee Haven in LB, Gypsy Den)? I have read that places where the majority of the audience are comics can be brutal, so I was thinking a variety show might be better for the first time.

    Thanks Again.

Variety shows usually have a more receptive audience because it isn't all comics, but you usually have to wait later. Pig n' Whistle and Liquid Zoo are both fun variety shows that can go late. I think going to shows with just comics is better for meeting people.

I'm going to be at the Comic Bug in Manhattan Beach on Thursday, and the Coffee Haven in Long Beach on Friday.

What's the scene at the spot like? I'm not doing anything tomorrow?

Has anybody been to this "The Open Mic" place?? Wondering if it's worth paying 5 bucks to get up.
