    Industry Question

I've been lurking here for awhile, so I am worse than somebody who just found this place. But I have a burning question about Jimmy Fallon. How do people get jobs on his show? Is it about having an agent and working through it that way (what I think) or do I just mail a package to "Fallon & Friends" (what my mom thinks)?
Either way, I won't be applying to work for Jimmy Fallon, I just want to settle a dispute with my mom. HELP

    Depends on the job.

Construction/sets/caterer-have a resume with plenty of experience in working on TV/movie sets, apply with the network.

Host - spend several years giggling at yourself, do some awful movies and then fall ass-backwards onto some exec who thinks you're pretty.

Most people would stretch that out to 200 pages and write a book about it, but you have shaved it down to two sentences.

    Great job!

Thanks! What about writing? My main question is if I would need an agent. I do not plan on getting one because I am fresh out of college and have nothing to promote. I just need some knowledge.

Someone more knowledgeable than I can feel free to correct me, but my understanding is that you don't strictly need an agent to submit a packet, but that if you have an agent/management with a reputation, it will make a big difference in terms of whether your packet is considered carefully. If you're fresh out of college, I would focus on getting together some really good material and secondarily on finding a literary agent.
