I didn't start doing comedy steadily until right before I turned 30. It's not too late buddy.

You guys are so incredibly nice today!

I was going to jump in and say something snarky about how someone who wants to pursue writing seriously should better understand the use of capitalized letters and proper punctuation...but now you've made me all self-conscious about crushing the fragile dreams of a special young man.

(And I say young, because I didn't start my comedy efforts in earnest until I was 37, almost 38, years old.)

(And, I have to admit some special kinship with someone who uses almost as many ellipses as I do...)

(On the other hand, I think I will always have more parenthetical asides.)

I think I remember Zach Galifianakis saying on AST Radio that he didn't start comedy 'til he was 27. I hope I'm recalling that right because it's the last thing keeping me from suicide.

Rodney Dangerfield (Jacob Cohen) basically started stand-up at age 20 as Jay Roy, and failed miserably. At one point he gave up the business and went back to selling house siding. Then, at 40, he saw "The Godfather," which goes on a lot about respect. He got it in his head to be the guy who "don't get no respect," and re-started his comedy career.

I don't know what happened to him after that.

I feel that anyone can start stand-up at any point. I started earlier this year when I was 19 (I'm 20 now) and it has been an interesting journey. I feel it doesn't matter if you're my age or yours, just get on stage and see how they react to you. Live your dream.
