HOW DO I GET MY SPEC SCRIPTS OUT THERE?!?!

    Hey,
So i'm a young comedy writer fresh out of college and since I've graduated, I've been able to knock out a few quality spec scripts (two for Modern Family and one for The Office)
I've asked this question before, but have received few (if any) responses/help.
I'm just wondering if any of you guys have tips/hints/tricks/addresses or just any plain old advice...

    ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED.... thanks

also...whats the most used Script writing software? I'm currently using a free version of Celtx for my mac, but I am DEFINITELY looking to upgrade...

    1) Don't use all caps in a thread.
    2) I have no idea as to how to put spec scripts out there, but assume much has been written on the Internet about it.
    3) Isn't Celtx good enough? It works for me.

Well, there is another thread on this board (started by me which nobody seems to post in) about fellowships. But a lot of fellowships and writing contests are closed for the year. Just dig around for fellowships which seem the best way to get started.

Move out of the shit town you live in. Move to LA. Fight it out with everyone else. Struggle. Hate yourself. Become addicted to something. Go to rehab. Get your shit together. Relapse. Go to rehab again. This time, get your shit together, for real, mean it, this time, be really willing to do whatever it takes. Meet lady at 12 Step meeting who sets your brain on fire. Date for a year, then move in with her, live together for a year, and right after she gets pregnant, plan a wedding quickly, and get married in a small ceremony officiated by the secretary of the 12 Step meeting where you two met. Your job is going nowhere anyway so you quit to be a stay at home dad. While waking in the middle of the night to feed the boy, you turn on the TV and see that jerk you hated in college on Comedy Central. Wonder how he made it, and wonder why he's dressed like he's in his twenties still. Your wife relapses while on pain meds from a yoga injury and has a fling with a guy whose name sounds like an appetizer at a vegan restaurant. He's more "spiritual" than you. It doesn't last very long and she comes back, but nothing's the same and your marriage is little more than going through the motions. Eventually she's the one who admits it, and you split up amicably. Someone calls you an Old Timer at a 12 Step meeting. Your first girlfriend who smashed your heart freshman year in college calls you and says she's sorry and your roommate whom she ended up marrying died of liver failure. While watching your kid at soccer practice, you end up blabbing your life story to one of the other parents, interjecting occasional shout-outs to your kid. And the end of your babble, the parent says, "have you ever considered writing your life story?" Turns out, he's an agent. He gives you his card.

The best one I think would be the Nick fellowship which is every February. I know some people in the program and they said it is the best. www.nickwriting.com

    Who's Nick Fellowship?
Erik Charles Nielsen is a moderately funny fellow... right?

I'm in a time warp of silliness in a miasma of threads I don't care about.

I think you're off to a great start but it seems a little too esoteric of a concept to pitch to FOX.

I dunno... he could pitch it as a show for Herman's Head fans.

That seems like a niche concept. Networks might not be into it -- wouldn't he be better off pitching that to a basic cable station, like HHN?

You should pitch it as "Always Sunny... on a message board."

Re: HOW DO I GET MY SPEC SCRIPTS OUT THERE?!?!

I've always wondered this myself. punkdc, your thread of fellowship ideas was actually helpful info for me, even though I didn't really have much insight on it. It seems like knowing someone with a writing job helps the most, and if you can't do that, trying to get one of those is the next best thing.

My current plan is to go to this film school near me and get certified in film and television production and hope that helps me get my foot in as an editor or something. Then try to utilize that to get in the writing room. Long shot, maybe, but I figure I'd at least be in the general field I enjoy either way.

And your life story becomes the next Judd Apatow or Happy Madison feature.
