How can I be sure my newly written joke is 100% original?

I always want to strive for the most original premise, and overall joke. But what if I write a joke and there's a ring of familiarity to it. I don't want to perform that joke right?

But I honestly thought of it on my own.

when it comes to a joke sounding familiar, when in doubt throw it out?

    i welcome all responses, thanks

I do not think any Joke is 100% original. But maybe if you talk about events in your life maybe it can be a little more original than another. talk about you, how you feel, what is your experiences.
Every time Siggers posts all that goes through my mind is "Chosen One"

don't drop anything before you've tried it.

you'll (hopefully) get to a stage where you won't actually be able to stand doing shit that is hackeneyed and is cookie cutter so enjoy the early stages of doing bits that may not be greatly original. try them, play around with them, HAVE FUN.

(also; remember that it's not about being original it's about being funny. brian reagan talks about fed ex boxes and makes it fucking hilarious.)

Sounds like you're writing that joke in the tone of another comedian? (something we amateur comedians often do)

I often write bits and my girlfriend says, "That sounds like a Todd Barry bit, or that sounds like a Brian Regan bit..." - and she's right. So lately I've tried to visualize myself telling my friends or co-worker that same bit, cause I always use my own "voice" when joking with friends. That has seemed to help.

if you really want to do a joke that you know is 100 percent original make sure the joke includes your name, cell and social security number

You could always mine your life for unquestionably personal moments. My material is about things that happened to me. I like to find the funny on a piece of unique ground. Don't worry, people will relate to it, if you're honest. My favorite comics have all shown me this.
