Have you heard this joke before? I honestly wrote it but meeh

My wife and I were revealing our kinkiest sexual fantasies and I told her how much I wanted a blowjob while riding a roller coaster.

She said that was out of the question cause roller coasters make her throw up

I said "perfect, that's my other fantasy"

    ...

Is this joke original? Regardless of it being funny(cause I think it's hilarious) have you heard it before? It sounds like a Dave Attell joke to me.

I appreciate any response I get. And try not to tear me down so harshly if you think the joke is unfunny or hack. Please guys

I think you should use the joke if you are an open micer and need material that you think is funny. If you are more experienced and have more material, then dump it.

At first it is hard to just come up with funny things to say, and I do think this is funny, but after a while any time you even feel like something you are working on is questionable, it is easier to let it go because you already have your comedy writing brain turned on.
Message boards are a great place to have your opinions misconstrued and taken out of context by strangers you would probably hate in real life

This is one of Cosby's earlier bits, wasn't it?

Actually, no, it's good and I haven't heard it before. Run with it and run with it hard.

I've been accused of telling a joke someone else wrote, but I swear I thought of it on my own. Very possible someone else thought of it too like many inventions. What do you do?

I know, it's like i swear to god I honestly wrote this on my own but that don't mean I'm not subconsciously lifting the joke. Like I fell asleep one night while Dave Attell was on the tv.

I suppose when in doubt, throw it out. Just keep writing everyday is all I want to do

Comedians who are fans of a particular comedian can sometimes find themselves "writing in the style of" their favorite comedian--not so much that they're lifting actual jokes or joke specifics...but they'll borrow the general cadence, attitude or limited vocabulary subset of their favorite comics.

Obviously, the best end result is to be the best and most specifically unique version of YOU that you can be...and not just a reasonably original facsimile of your influences--but it's hard to be so severe as to cut out of your personality the things that you enjoy....and it's incredibly difficult to be absolutely personally original while also being successful with audiences.

So, does it sound like something Dave Attell might have said? Maybe...at least the shock value topic choice and willingness to not seem to care about the feelings of people society suggests you should care about are in the Dave Attell playbook.

I don't think that what you've posted here actually IS an actual Attell joke, however...not that I know EVERY Dave Attell joke, but I've got a good working knowledge of his stuff. The main reason I don't think that it is an actual Attell joke is that I don't think what you've got here makes sense...and I find Dave to be an incredibly efficient and logical jokecrafter.

I know you specifically asked not to have your joke's merits crushed--but this speaks to authenticity. To me, in what you've written...there's no "puzzle solving A-HA!" moment to reward the listener here, it's just shock-value misogyny. There's any number of Attell--wannabes (who probably used to be Dice wannabes at one point) pandering in shock value misogyny without reward. What elevates Attell is that his "joke logic" is unassailable--you laugh regardless of what you think, often despite yourself. The tension of saying the wrong/unexpected thing boosts the laughs...but, it doesn't serve as the sole reason that laughs might ensue.

(Also, Attell doesn't mind being the usual butt of his own jokes... He makes himself the victim...and people don't feel bad laughing AT him.)

So, while I don't think you've stolen anything with this...I don't think there's anything worth claiming ownership of, either.

pg--But, maybe I'm just being a dick. After all, others here have told you they like this joke, so your mileage may vary.--seattle
We'll just take the fact that this was too long and that you didn't read it...as read.

I'd close with this. Also, spread some oatmeal on your pants before you go onstage.

I was trying to figure out why I like people like Anthony Jeselnik and Daniel Tosh despite the awful things they say. Jeselnik's been up front about it being a character of sorts, and Tosh'll show his hand occasionally and expose that he's sometimes writing from a point of view he doesn't agree with just because it's more interesting. I'd settled on "They don't really mean it, and me knowing that allows me to enjoy it," but I hadn't thought about it just being admiration of their craftsmanship.
