not really as part of my act.
as for how to work it in, you just do it.
i have a friend who wrote a song about a homophobic rapper then created the character to go with it and now will book shows as both his normal person and in character.

the answer when you're just starting is always, just try it.
i did an entire set parody of the song Blue (da boo dee da boo die) called Jew once. not my proudest moment but still pretty funy to just do everything under the sun til you find what works for you

I sure do. If my joke is about a particular song I just start singing whatever line I'm quoting wherever it grammatically fits in. If I'm performing a song I wrote, I usually kick off my set with it, or save it for the very, very end.

Sometimes if a set isn't going well, I'll end with a really caustic joke, then awkwardly sing "God Bless America" in a high pitched voice while slowly setting the microphone down on the ground and returning to my seat in the audience.

I sincerely hope you're joking. If not, I sincerely hope you never get booked for an actual show.

Scratch that. I sincerely hope you never get booked for an actual show, and also you're banned from some open mics.
