    Books

I'm very close to self-publishing a book, Turn That $#!+ Off!, with comedic takes on politics, sports, and entertainment. What tends to be the average number of pages when it comes to books by comedians?

I'm at close to 150 pages at the moment. The settings are for 5.5 x 8.5.

    You're not serious, are you?

Ignoring the fact that this question can easily be answered by going to any Barnes & Noble or even Amazon, why would anyone care how many pages the average comedian book contains? It's your book. Write as many goddamn pages as you want.
Hey, check me out. I'm a ghost.

Whatever part of you wants to do an average, by the numbers book, I recommend turning that shit off.

    These guys are kidding.

The average is 2,210 pages with a LPPS (laugh per page score) of roughly 14.2. Anything outside these parameters won't be accepted as comedy.

It's tough, so good luck. Comedy is a hideous bitch goddess but that's why we love her, right?

When I was working on my book, I was worried about pages. Then my editor told me it's all about word count - and told me not to worry about it. Like any great joke, the goal is to have it tightly written. Sacrifice several pages if it allows you to trim the fat.

    Re: Books

I like those books where it's just one page. Like, I read one where the cover had a picture of a kitten in a birthday hat and the first page said "Happy Purrrrthday." Does anyone know the author on that one? It he the same guy who wrote the book with a dachshund on the cover sitting in a cake and inside it says "Happy Birthday! I hope you last for a loooong time" ???

Do you guys think I could self publish this really good essay that I wrote on Teddy Roosevelt when I was taking classes at technical college. It was for a psychology class so I didn't make a good grade, but the teacher gave a lot of red marks on it, so I think it's a pretty good one.
