Thread: Atlanta Improv Classes

    Atlanta Improv Classes

Might be a long shot but basically I was wondering if anyone here might know of any good Improv/Writing classes around the Atlanta area? I've found a few places but they're all asking for around $300 with non-refundable deposits and I'm just a 23 year old waiter in bum-fuck Georgia so I don't exactly have... Well, honestly I don't have any money but it's something I really want to try my hand at. I have a lot of family in Chicago and the plan as of now is to crash with them for a bit next year and maybe try some of the Second City classes. I figured a little prior experience couldn't hurt though.

The Dad's Garage folks have a very good reputation (I've seen them here in Toronto). $230 for 8 weeks, according to their site (and they have a volunteer program to knock the price down a bit). That's a very typical price point, anywhere you go. It ain't a cheap pastime.

Thanks. They were one of the few that I had really looked into. I actually called them a couple days ago but it just went straight to voice mail. Actually, it was a pretty funny voice mail now that I think about it. That probably was some kind of sign.

I know this question was posted a year ago, but I thought my insight would be useful.
I went through levels 1-4 at Dad's Garage, took classes with the amazing Tommy Futch over at Laughing Matters, and have been a part of multiple intensives & have had several coaches for my Improv group over at Relapse Theatre.

If you actually want stage time & creative freedom over yourself/your craft, I don't suggest Dad's Garage. While it's a really awesome theatre, full of really awesome & talented Improvisors, opportunities for new talent is extremely minimal.
I highly suggest Relapse Theatre. I may be a little bias, because I've been given the opportunity to become part of the community here, perform multiple nights a week, teach classes, etc. My group was given a Tuesday night slot a couple years ago & through our hard work & dedication we started packing out houses, booking outside gigs, teaching classes, and cultivating fans. Now we have Tuesday PLUS a Friday night show. We produce, market, cast, manage our own Improv troupe & Relapse has made that possible. There's multiple performance & classroom space; but most importantly room for you as an Improvisor to grow. Your first step should be to check out the Relapse Theatre page:www.relapsecomedy.com, then check-out the upcoming classes at www.relapseuniversity.com

The Atlanta Improv community is a wonderful community to be a part of; I suggest everyone (no matter the theatre) jump in head first!
