So the Toronto leg of Just For Laughs is happening, and the show on Friday July 17 is the one I am most excited about-it's hosted by Sarah Silverman and features the lineup I mentioned in this thread's subject. John Mulaney. Pretty rad hey? Is anybody going? Tickets are pretty expensive though.
I thought the show was fantastic! Everyone did a great job, but I particularly enjoyed Arj Barker and Todd Glass. Anyone else?
Saw both shows...loved it. David Cross' second set was really good, with an extended 'fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me' bit that got to 'fool me nine times' or so. Todd Glass and John Mulaney were the two comics I hadn't heard much from before on the bill, and I thought they were both really good. Everybody really impressed me, especially in that second show. I feel good finally having seen LCK perform live, and really liked seeing the way he tuned his material from set to set. Someone yelled "Jimmy Kimmel" during Sarah Silverman's set, which I found was a shitty thing to do. It's not throwing a shotgun casing at Courtney Love, but it's a dick move for sure. It was the most consistent JFL show I've seen since I worked at Massey, for my sensibilities at least.
I almost went to this show. Didn't.
I went Friday for the early show and almost got into a fight while cutting through the Eaton Centre when some weird guy made an aggressive overture to my girlfriend and I yelled "you're a fucking dick!" in front of a bunch of children while the guy made a slow escape on an escalator yelling "ooohhh..tough guy!" and me yelling back "you're more than welcome to come back up and find out you fucking dick!"
Pretty good show though. Totally cheered me up.
Sarah was a great host and did a bit off the top and some songs.
Arj seemed to have a hard time adjusting to the higher alcohol content in the Canadian beer and or the lax weed laws. Sloppy but funny with some great jokes. I particularly liked the stuff about the crazy dangerous animals in Australia.
John Mulaney is a really likeable guy and does a good job sellling the premise and acting out the punchlines. You can see the sketch writing element to a lot of his jokes.
David Cross was a real dissapointment. He was whiny and petulant and started the set by bitching about 'having to show up for rehearsal' like it was the most insane request. It's a big theatre and the lights need to be set and whatnot. Then he meandered and there weren't really a lot of jokes. He also did a rape joke that didn't get a huge response then blamed the auidence for being conservative and having delicate sensibilities despite the fact that we had laughed at about 4 previous rape jokes. Fact is it just wasn't a funny joke.
Lous CK destroyed. So great. People weren't just laughing beside me they were almost incapable of laughing and were just kind of yelling out of their faces like they had moved beyond laughter and discovered a new level of expressing joy.

Right, TG. I loved him. So likeable, great energy and really gets a crowd behind him. He also has some great jokes that stand on their own and are tightly written. He vowed to retire his "Do I looke like Fred Flinstone and Mel Gibson had an ugly baby" joke in Toronto, so if you see him do it again you can bust him.Originally Posted by Itslikeimsayin
All in all it was a fantastic show with a nice mix of styles. The comics looked like they were having fun too.
Can't wait to see Louis in October when he returns.
