Hey, my dad and I are visiting SF 4/21-4/28 so he can show me around the city a little bit in preparation for my impending move to SF. What's good in live comedy during that week? We'd love to catch a show or six.

T.J. Miller is at the Punch Line 4/21-4/24. Order tix over the phone by calling between 3 and 6. The Sunday Showcase at the Punch is only $12 and a great way to see a lotta good local comics.
Greg Giraldo is at Cobb's the 23rd-25th.
Can't think of any good small shows going on then, but I'll post if I do.
The night of the 21st, there's a great show going on at the Purple Onion. Comedy Hangover in 3D with the following comics;
Jesse Elias
Colleen Watson
Julien Rodríguez
Dave Thomason
Joe Tobin
Hosted by Jeff Cleary and Joe Gorman

Hey, check me out. I'm a ghost.
Anything else at the Purple Onion? The schedule on their website is pretty scant, and does not include Comedy Hangover, which makes me wonder if there are other shows it does not include.
Also, excited to possibly see Giraldo and Miller. Hadn't even heard anything by Miller until this thread, so the thread has already paid off. Most likely I'll go to Giraldo and not Miller with my dad; TJ's material seems pretty generationally specific. The idea of drawing dicks on people's faces is so foreign to my dad, for example.
What kind of stuff should I expect from Comedy Hangover? I'm not familiar with the names, but I trust you that it looks good. But what could it be compared to, so I can figure out if it's something Dad might enjoy?
Better than trying to explain each comic, here's some clips;

Cleary and Gorman are both no-talent pieces of shit, so don't worry about them. Hopefully they'll keep it short and not try and do any 'jokes'.
Thomason is going to be too big to play at a venue this size very soon, I predict, and I'm sure there will be other comics that haven't been announced yet. The Purple Onion is worth seeing just to see, and your dad may appreciate being in the place that broke The Smothers Brothers and Phyllis Diller, to name a few (depending on how old he is, I guess).
Hey, check me out. I'm a ghost.
Laurie Kilmartin and Kevin O'Shea are guests Wednesday night at The Business, which is a weekly five-dollar show at the Dark Room. Regulars Bucky Sinister, Alex Koll, and Chris Garcia will be there, though I will not since I'm working with Mr. Miller at the Punch.
Show starts at 8 - The Dark Room is at Mission and 19th in SF.
Check out TJ Miller. If he closes with the story about getting his picture taken at the DMV your dad willl love him.
Curious as to which show you wound up going to. Both the Bizness and Purple Onion shows had a lot to offer, so don't feel bad about skipping one or the other.
If you went to the Purple Onion show, I'm the guy who took your money at the door. It was a pretty great night. Everyone had really solid sets throughout.
The notable exceptions of course being Cleary and Gorman who, as I said before, couldn't find funny if you taped it to the inside of their sunglasses...
Hey, check me out. I'm a ghost.
SF can be a rough place. Better he learns it from me than how most people do; waking up in Sausalito with cocaine all over his clothes and an IOU from Gorman stapled to his chest...
Hey, check me out. I'm a ghost.
But at least you'll never have kids again.
We couldn't make it to the Purple Onion. We got in too late. I was super-bummed, because the videos you linked me to were great. But what happens happens. We ended up catching TJ Miller's first show. He let an off-the-cuff improv rant about a restaurant he went to earlier in the day go way too long, and I think he was pretty surprised that it went that as long as it did (like 20 minutes), but when he was on-point or when he was riffing on a couple of audience members, he was good stuff.
Still pondering trying to catch Giraldo at Cobb's.
I learned it from a nice gentleman at the Punch Line who let us pay for two tickets instead of three (went with my brother) since we missed the openers. We didn't tell him we missed them on purpose. We're so bad!
