    New to the Bay Area

I have not been doing comedy long, but I have always performed in Los Angeles. I am moving to San Francisco and I have heard great things about Annie's Social Club, which I found out closed down this year.

Do you have any recommendations for open mics/shows similar to Annie's? I have been on sfstandup.com but I am not sure which shows are most recommended to a relative newcomer. I know of Brainwash, but that's about it. Also, do you have any recommendations for transitioning from open mics towards a real show (I guess being invited rather a totally public open mic).

    Thank you guys

Some of your best bets for stage time off the bat:

Monday: Bliss Bar, possibly Club Deluxe after the regular show (they put up open mic'ers after the booked show is over)

Tuesday: McTinkle's at House of Shields, Rockit Room

Wednesday: Pier 23. If you have a car, you could also start signing up at Rooster T. Feathers in Sunnyvale. It gets booked weeks in advance.

    Thursday: Brainwash

    Friday: Pirate Cat Radio

Saturday: Try getting in touch with Our Small Theater.

Sunday: Punchline. Go, start watching the show. You'll hear more about how to get up later.

All of these are good for meeting other comics, many of whom are involved in/book other shows. After people have seen you around for a while, you'll start getting onto other things.

The Brainwash is a great open mic, if you like yelling.

If you go to Brainwash, make sure to be very nice to the guy who hosts it. He is known for letting his friends have as much time as they like and for telling new people that they are 'just after the next guy' over and over again until the night is over.

If you're an aggressive, in-your-face type of comedian that finds 4-letter words edgy, racy and real, you will love Brainwash though.

Wow, I had no idea Pirate Kat did open mics. I'm probably gonna cheg it out. My friend actually lives 2 blocks away. Anyone want to join in on our German humiliation?
I swear to god, Helen, shut your face.

As of last week, Pier 23 is no more. Management has decided they want to stop focusing on entertainment and just push food and drinks. It's not really surprising - they stopped being biker-friendly because having a ton of motorcycles on the street and hanging around kept away the tourists, and not everybody sitting there on Wednesday nights was very excited that a comedy show was suddenly happening.

They MAY try to do a few specialty shows over the summer, but no more weekly open mics.
