Two former Seattle International Comedy Competition champions who are both previous SFCC finalists, Tommy Savitt and Mike Baldwin, did not advance out of this preliminary week.
The Semi-Finals, with ten comedians (the top five from each preliminary week) doing ten minute long sets, starts later this week!

Hey Cameron...
How'd your shows go? Who did you see that you liked? Are you glad you did it?

Definitely glad I did it. Paul Hooper was really great, as was Mike Drucker, Mike Merryfield, Dom Pare, and way more.
I had a great show at the SFJCC, but the other ones were fairly rough for me. All of crowds were more on the conservative side and skewed a bit older than I would have liked (I don't think there was a single show with a median age of less than 40). I think that definitely hurt myself and a few of the others. Though I did feel good that by far my best show was the only one in the actual city and in front of the largest crowd. The host definitely didn't do anyone any favors (he was basically a jukebox, not a comedian), and it would have been nice to have had a show in an actual comedy venue, but all these are minor quibbles as I overall had a great time.
Interesting comment about the age of the crowd, Cameron.
I know the year that I was a competitor (in 2008)--we had a great, sold-out gig up at Sonoma State...definitely a young audience that night. (Concerns about the economy have led to budget cuts at these colleges...and that's why you didn't have that gig this year.)
Was the Crow's Nest also an older crowd for you? I remember that being fairly normally demographicked for a bar crowd. (On the other hand, we did a matinee show in Half Moon Bay earlier that day where I think the median age was post-retirement.) In my week, the year I did it, the only show we did in The City was at the Purple Onion...and the audience was almost entirely made up of tourists...which was a weird audience to play for...![]()
