FYI, I've been posting a series on Bumbershoot's comedy line up. And it includes brief interviews with The Red Wine Boys (Todd Barry and H. Jon Benjamin) and Doug Benson.

So for those who are looking for a way to get pumped before the festival, feel free to stop by!

Not bad, but Unbalanced Load isn't Doug's first CD. His first, Professional Humoredian, was released by this very website's record label, aspecialthing records, last year.

    Yikes! Sorry. Fixed. Thx!

I'll second the Rory Scovel recommendation. It's only a matter of time before AST gets on board with him. I can't imagine anyone who frequents this site not liking him.

Also, more shameless self-promotion: I'm on the Saturday Laff*Hole show, which, as everyone mentioned, overlaps with the Benson Interruption. Do with that information what you will.

Re: Bumbershoot 2009! Braunger, Benson, Barry, more!

My Monday comedy schedule is Cenac/Mirman and The Benson Interruption. I'll also be going to the Lost writers panel, Metric in the music lounge, Modest Mouse, and whatever else looks good. I wasn't able to squeeze any of Maria Bamford's shows into my calendar, so I hope she shows up on an Interruption.

I'm disappointed that Laff*Hole is always an overlap with TBI. Especially with Embiggen's inclusion.

Re: Bumbershoot 2009! Braunger, Benson, Barry, more!

The national comedy stages are booked and scheduled quite separately from the VERA stage. There's no attempt to coordinate those things (as far as I know.)

They used to cycle the national comedy stages shows...but the more recent trend has been to keep every show on those two stages at the same time each day. If they scheduled a Laff*Hole show at VERA at the same time, that's just because it's likely to be the "prime time" for shows...and Laff*Hole is PRoK's flagship show.

But, the truth is...it's always been simply impossible to see everything you want to see...and it's always good to have back up plans...as lines for certain things may be long or stages just too nightmarishly crowded...

You can have a great time at a Bumbershoot just wandering around and catching stuff you'd never have guessed you'd enjoy.

pg--Don't feel the need to try to "win" at Bumbershooting. Just have as great of a time as you can!--seattle

Two quick and excellent updates from Twitter this morning:

    1. As per @toddbarry, the Red Wine Boys have added a second show, but he didn't list time and location. And it's not yet on the official Bumbershoot online calendar. I'll come back here and post again when I can find out more.

    2. As per @Braunger, he'll be doing the Benson Interruption on Saturday @ 6:15.

    Wahoo!

Re: Bumbershoot 2009! Braunger, Benson, Barry, more!

Just to keep us guessing, on the night before the launch of the festival, Bumbershoot has updated its comedy calendar yet again!

For the Saturday evening 8pm show at Comedy Stage South, it appears that David Cross will be appearing in the show with Charlyne Yi.

And it now appears that the only chance to catch Patton Oswalt will be on Sunday at the 8pm Comedy Stage South show with Yi.

And then on Monday night, 8pm at Comedy Stage South, Yi will be performing with Doug Benson, Maria Bamford and others.

And finally, they listed the time and location of the second Red Wine Boys show: Monday at 3:45 on Comedy Stage North with Aziz Ansari.

Original spreadsheet in tatters. Starting over.

not true, my cotton-tailed friend. patton will be appearing in an INTERRUPTION show this weekend (i bet you can figure out which one, li'l wabbit). plus it looks like charlyne yi will not be appearing at all. and you already knew swardson cancelled, right? but shows that he was supposed to be in will feature a specially videotaped message. plus "Mystery Guest" is still doing some sets. so what i'm trying to say is: the comedy shows this weekend are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get, but odds are it'll be yummy!

Re: Bumbershoot 2009! Braunger, Benson, Barry, more!

Yesterday was a pretty great day at Bumbershoot. Weather was perfect despite reports of rain.

    Shows I saw:
5 minutes of Katy Perry (morbid curiosity)
Hotels - excellent show at the EMP|SFM Sky Church. Got portroids of the band members afterwards.
Braunger/Barry/Watts w/ host Pete Holmes - this show was hilarious, as you would expect. It was my first time seeing Matt, Pete, and Reggie and they lived up to my high expectations. Resilient Rabbit was there and we talked for a bit before the show. I think I also saw Embiggen in the audience, but could've been mistaken. I got a portroid of Reggie afterwards.
The Benson Interruption - also excellent. Guests were Matt Braunger (with completely different material from his earlier set), Todd Barry (hilarious comments about all the babies in the audience (there were lots of infants)), Mystery Guest Sarah Silverman (told a funny story about falling on her face in her previous show that day), and David Cross (whose last joke left Doug speechless). Doug always amazes me with his quick wit and this was no exception. Everyone was hilarious. Got a portroid of David Cross after.
Went to see Matt & Kim, but they had just finished. Got portroids of them anyway.
Missed the Cross/Mirman (host Holmes) replacement show for Yi/Oswalt, but as I walked by saw Braunger outside with Mirman and Cenac. Got Matt's portroid.
De La Soul - watched half the set. There were sound issues, but they definitely put on a good show.

Today promises to be even busier and more fun.

    (puzzles!)

my comedy soul is very depressed that I'm missing all of this.

my lazy soul is pretty happy to be sitting on its ass all weekend though.

Re: Bumbershoot 2009! Braunger, Benson, Barry, more!

I'll post a full wrap up later today, but just wanted to mention that this entire experience has been a comedy nerd's delight. I've been especially impressed with how hard all the comedians have been working to deal with a schedule that seems to be shifting rapidly day to day. Many folks are doing multiple sets each day (regardless of whether that was originally in their plan), but the quality, energy and professionalism of those performances remains very high. Virtually all of the comedy menu has exceeded expectations. I'm impressed and deeply appreciative.

Okay -- off to get ready for the last day.

every comic who is still in seattle tonight at 8:00 will be performing in the "all star comedy jam" at the charlotte martin (comedy stage south). should be a fun and possibly easy-to-get-into show.

    (so do it)
