Congrats on the spot, Dan.
I'll try and make it to one of the shows.
Maria has rescheduled with the Lakeshore.
Waiting to hear back if I will still be opening.
The Lakeshore has confirmed, I will be opening for Maria at all 4 shows.

This should go without saying, but Maria is a comedy artisan and I could not be more blown away and excited to open for her. Hope to see you guys there!
Hi. Can't wait for this!
Hey Dan
Good Job

Looks like I'll finally get to see the famous Dan Telfer do some comedy this Saturday! I had no idea you were opening for Bams until I saw the headline on Gapers Block. Of course I rushed over to AST to say congrats.![]()
I got free tickets to this, but then when I went to pick them up, they made everyone who got free tickets (around 20 of us) wait in the lobby until 8:30pm, and then informed us that there were only 3 seats available.
Remember back when the Lakeshore didn't suck?
Ah well, hope you had a good set Dan.
My 5 friends and I waited around until they said they would usher us in at intermission. I guess the show was over-sold, because they set up a row of chairs right in front of the stage for us, which was cool, but was bummed to have missed the openers.
Maria was amazing, of course!
I'm really bummed that you guys had trouble getting in.
All the shows were packed and I think I did see a few ASTers make it into the house. I had so much fun. What amazing shows. Maria was so great to work with.
I was there! Sorry I didn't stick around to say hello after. Meant to, but the boyfriend was cold and wanted to go. I thought you'd be interested to know that on the train home, there were about 10 college-age peeps in the car with us and your jokes were being quoted most of the way! Seems that the crowd favorite was the clap monster.![]()
Great job Dan! Working on PFT today.

I do remember those days... One of my favorites was when we booked Reggie Watts and sold 6 tickets, so we had Reggie set up his beatbox on the sidewalk and he street performed for an hour to drag people in off the street. We managed to do the show for about 30 people including 6 who were homeless.
I lost about $8,000 that weekend and had my car repossessed, but MAN was it a great show...
For the record, we never over SELL tickets, but we do, on occassion, give away too many freebies.
In the case of Bamford, once word got out that Telfer was on the show we got WAY more walk-up than anticipated and yes, we serve paying customers first.
I do apologise for the inconvenience and will be happy to personally see that your party of 20 gets in for free for Jamie Kilstein, Glenn Wool or Shapiro/Burns over the next three weekends - great shows to be sure, but not as likely to draw because Telfer not going to be on the bill.
All that said, I'm back in the office after a 3-month break to get sober (101 days now) and will be making an effort to make things a bit less douchy...

why were you giving away any free tickets to see maria?
(congrats on your 101 days, ritter!)
Congrats Ritter.
I loved the show that we paid for on Friday and loved the show we got in free to on Saturday! (My broke friends I brought along loved it too... many thanks!) Both nights I actually noticed a marked improvement in turning the house and getting tickets and didn't see an unappreciative drunken yahoo in the whole place!
Whatever you are doing, keep it up!
My only request is for you to get back on stage and start welcoming the crowd again. I miss your sweetly sincere greetings to your “living room.”
Because if we didn't there would have been more than 150 empty chairs for each show.
It's also better for Maria to play for 1200 people who may not all be familiar with her over a weekend rather than 500 people who are already fans because it will translate to more paid tickets when she returns to the market because she's so great.
General theory is to pack the house regardless of sales to a) create perception of success with joe audience member b) take their money at the bar c) (hopefully) have a better house for the artists (I know the drunks have been a problem and I'm working on it, just saying a full house is better than playing to 50 people for someone up and coming like Jamie Kilstein or Glenn Wool) d) introduce the venue to people who have never been here before e) put great acts in front of people who may not otherwise have bought tickets and f) promote future events.
For example, if I re-book you for the spring, then I start putting you in the pre-show reel 4 times a night. Now I'm putting that ad in front of 1500 people a week who have a) demonstrated a willingness to show up at the venue and b) have expressed an interest in comedy. Now when the 1 guy who's a fan sees that you're coming, he tells the 9 friends he brought with him on a free offer "Dude, we gotta buy tickets to see Benson" as opposed to seeing the ad in the paper and just buying tickets for him and his girlfriend.
The short-sighted theory is we're packing it to do bar business. The longer view is we're doing it to sell more tickets.
All that said, I think we can get all the above done and be less douchy and have less of a frat party vibe.
