Literally JUST found out I'm going to be in Chicago this weekend. Suggestions?

Hey yall,

Had a surprise trip with the girlfriend coming up, she's surprising me, but then she accidentally let slip where we are going - Chicago! I've never been and am hoping to use the magnificent resource that is AST to guide me the right way.

Checked Dan Telfer's blog but he isn't playing this weekend. I'm going to do some research online now but thought I'd ask you all for ideas too. I'll be there from the 10th-12th.

I'm looking for comedy stuff, but if there are any great video game nerd places to go visit I'd like to know about them too!

Family Tree House Boat Accident happens on Sunday evenings at iO and is generally pretty great. They create their own form each week and it's pretty consistently awe-inspiring.

Also, I know dick about video games, but when I have nerd friends come visit, I always take them to People Play Games on Clark. It's an old school video game store, they have all sorts of rare games, it's the only place like it I've ever been.

If you like arcade video games, check out a record store called Logan Hardware. They have a bunch on cabinets set to free play. Also, there's some good stand up from a group called Your Funniest Friends at The Joynt on Saturday. The Comedy Bar also does shows all weekend. Both shows are $10 I think.

I prefer Middle age Comeback and 3033. Happens at the same time. 3033 also make up their own form. I also like the nearby Chicago Dinner. Check out Demo's pizza, just a few buildings down from Io. Crazy toppings! If you're in downtown Chicago, I suggest Adagio Teas. It's close to Al's Beef (yum) and Geno's East ( I dunno). Where in Chicago are you staying?

Oddly enough, I am also in Chicago for the weekend. I just got tickets for the 3033 show, and was hoping someone could offer good advice on where to park near the theater, as well as some other things to do/see within walking distance of the theater besides the aformationed People Play Games. My friend and I will probably be heading to the theater in the next 2 hours or so, and we were hoping to spend the whole afternoon down there.

I took some of your tips to heart, saw an Improv show, got a boxed copy of System Shock 1 (nerd alert), almost bought a turbografix 16 portable but the 200$ pricetag was too much, and I even saw a cubs game... first baseball game i've been to since the Expos last home games in 2004. I had sworn off baseball but that stadium is amazing. Worth it.

I thought Des Moines was much further than it is, but due to time constraints I didn't get to see Dan's show. Which was a shame cause I love the new album.

Oh well, next time!
