I haven't been to Schubas in awhile and I was thinking of making it out there this Sunday. I know that's a lot more packed than it used to be. If I want a decent slot, what would be a good time to go and sign up.
Hey guys. This is my first post, popped that cherry, but I've never done an open mic night. I'm sure after doing it a couple of times, the knots in your stomach tend to go away, which is probably anybody's biggest hurdle at first.
A few questions though. How long does your act have to normally be? Is there a restriction, or is it more of an understanding to keep it to a certain amount of time. Nobody wants to use up half their jokes in one night anyway. I live about an hour away from Chicago, and this Schubas place sounds like the place to go. Maybe not for your first time, but it's all I've been reading about and I'm really eager to get out there.
Hey, Mathieu. Welcome. I reccomend you check out the Stage Time section of the board for these general open mic questions, such as how long your set should typically be. You'll find a lot of help and support there.
I think AST represented pretty nicely tonight! Very fun room and great drink special!
Wednesday nights at Cigars n' Stripes in Berwyn is great! The most surreal place to do comedy. It's like doing a set in the Netherworld. Try your weird or blue material here.
Rebel was a lot of fun. And I got to meet Spaulding which was cool. Cross another ASTer off the "met in person" list.
Now for Chicago I still need Umlaut and akliner.
...oh and loti and Shot Glass
...oh and JKwac...and polly...and, holy hell there are a lot of Chicagoans on here.
Though I don't post that much these days (I just don't feel a part of this website anymore!), I'm still here. In Chicago and on Aspecialthing dot com.
I would love to meet anyone within city limits (suck it Evanston), whether I listed them or decided to give up when I discovered a staggering number of Chicago board posters.
Just kidding Evanston, you're alright.
I was wondering if anyone could provide me a little info on Schubas...
Is it still every Sunday? More specifically this Sunday the 13th?
I've been googling unsuccessfully for an hour to find out if it is, but their site has nothing about it, and calling their # had me pressing a lot of buttons but I still couldn't get through to a human.
What time is sign up? And what time does the show usually start?
Thanks, great site by the way, I found out about a few good open mics because of this board and hopefully I can find out if the Schubas open mic is real or just a legend the comedy folk speak of.
Their website is weird. Here is an old post about it http://www.schubas.com. It is every week, the sign-up starts at 8:30(I think it actually starts a little earlier) and the show is at 9.
I haven't been there in a few weeks but I'm pretty sure if it was canceled someone would have mentioned it here.
Holidays over, Comedy begin.
What is the Tuesday night open mic routine in Chicago, 7/10 then people head over to the Beat Kitchen? That's what I'm thinking tonight anyways, see yall out there.
I think I'm going to be ready to try some local open mics VERY SOON!!! Lots of those in this thread.
Come on Becca! I'm new at this and I'm getting addicted fast. FB is a great way to keep up with the open mics up til the last minute to see what's actually going on. Lots of ASTers out there too
As Nike says...Just Cheat On Your Wife!!!
Runner, tomorrow at the Tonic room and then Riot? Then Loafers then sleep, no ridiculous repeat of last week OK?
I can't believe it is only the week anniversary of that insanity. Try and squeeze in the Lodge this week too?
I'm starting the Tonic Room a little early and may need a co-host to close the show so that I can make it to the Lincoln lodge to to man-on-the-street for CJ's birthday. Plan on the open mic starting at 7:30 or so.
So nothing happens on Fridays and Saturdays? Is that a rule? What's a good place to check out on Sundays?
I figure the best bet on Sundays is Schuba's. I haven't been there in awhile but I figure Schuba's open mic is the place to be on Sundays
