    Re: Chicago Open Mics

And now I feel really bad for being an asshole.

Here's the thing: Kenny's been chill as shit about letting me break the rules and I REALLY appreciate that. And I GET why they're in place. It's just that Cole's is my favorite mic (which is why I've hit it literally every week since I started stand up) and I've REALLY enjoyed Flock Yourself the 4-5 times I've done it. So the thought of not being able to do both just pisses me off.

THAT SAID, as a depressed narcissist, whenever something doesn't go my way, I feel like I'm being individually persecuted, which is absolutely not even based in reality. So what I'm saying is please ignore my huffing and puffing from now on because I'm a big, unreasonable baby who ACTIVELY enjoys complaining.

And yeah - I'm still going to Cole's every week, so I'll just have to late list to do Flock too... and do EVEN MORE crashing at weird comics' places.

    Question about Cole's:

If I can't get there until 10ish, will there still be spots available? This is the first I've heard about a "late arrivals list".

    Thanks.

    Hey Dan,

It's cool if you can't make it until ten. Like I said above, you can just call the bar any time after we open (773.276.5802) or just text me (810.845.4539) and get on the Late Arrivals list, which gets added to the main list at 8pm. This past week, we only had about 25 people on the list before I added the Late Arrivals, meaning that the first comic on the late list got to go up just after midnight. It's a late mic, so odds are you're not getting out of there before 11 anyways, so it's kind of a bitch if you're an early-bird, and we understand it.

Just keep in mind we'll get a crowd there usually through the end of the night (or at least until after 1am), and we have comics coming in late all the time, so you'll be in good company.

And Rebecca, I want you to know that everybody loves you, at Cole's and everywhere else. Please keep coming out everywhere.

And now I feel like I just ruined the momentum of this thread. As far as the rest of the mics go, I think more people should take advantage of Lucky Number Grill on Fridays. It's awesome, it's stressful, it's drunken, it's crazy, it's lame and it's the sort of thing every comic should experience.

I shouldn't post on AST while I'm drunk.

I'ma be out doin mikes june 17th in your fair city. I've got little understanding of geography of the city but curious if going early to three dead moose and then leaving and gettin over to standown late like 10:30/11ish for a 2nd set is doable? I really am just scoping it out as I'd like to do a few sets even tho I'm only in town for a few days and Sunday's the only really doable one it's lookin like.

Any other thoughts specific to sundays or maybe goin out to see a booked show (club or independent) late saturday night would be super helpful. /wave

Heeeey! I'm starting a mic. Weird, right?

Anyway - here's the Facebook event.

And here are the details: It's called Happy Medium and it's every Friday at J Bar in River North - 610 North Rush Street. It's a few blocks from the Grand Red Line stop... like a 3 minute walk.

I'm hosting it with Marc Smith (the guy who beat me in the Cole's <1 year contest!) and I'm really excited about it.

Doors open at 6. Sign up at 7. The Mic starts at 8.

$4 domestic beer. Week 2 (Friday - June 22nd) Svedka's sponsoring an open bar for all comics who sign up on the list from 6-8pm. $2 mini burgers!

Cash prize for best set of the night (How will we choose? Anyone's guess at this point!) Comics get 4 minutes.

I love open mics and I'm beyond excited to be hosting one and I hope everyone comes out and gets stage time and has fun at this awesome bar that's going out on a limb to support a new night of comedy.

    Hope to see you there!

EDIT: Our real flyers will be done by Matteo Lane, but they won't be ready until next week... Until then, here's the shit flyer I made in 3 minutes.

In only tangentially related news, I'm guest co-hosting a new Monday mic at Chief O'Neill's tomorrow. It's an early mic. Sign up's at 6. The mic starts at 7 and we have to be out by 9:30, so you can for sure still hit Comedysportz and Merkles and 3160 and Big Joe's (which is what I plan on doing!). This'll be my first time hosting - figure I should get in some practice before I'm doing it every Friday, right? - and I'm excited.

There are awesome drink specials, so come out and get some stage time. IT'LL BE FUN!

Three Dead is doing a showcase tonight FYI. Don't think the standard open mic rules will be applied.

Lately I've been hitting up the mic at the Logan Theater's back lounge. Signup at 8, starts around 8:30. It's a pretty nice little room, too...plus free popcorn!

Also, it's about 5 minutes from my apartment, so that's a factor, too.

Hello everyone, I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I'm 17 and I want to start doing open mics and I know some are 21+ and 18+, so can anyone recommend and good open mics that I can sign up for? Thank you and this would be greatly appreciated.
