Well, they have been saying forever that Rififi is closing. I even asked the bartenders and Antonio what the deal was awhile back. I guess they got a new owner who doesn't want to do comedy anymore.....

The same owner just a new tenant it looks like. Rififi was on a month to month lease somebody apparently offered to pay a lot more money. To the owner's credit he did offer to let Rififi stay if they wanted to match the offer.
That's the story I heard.
just thinking out loud, but the p.i.t. doesn't do any shows on sundays, maybe they can move all the shows over there for a weekly sunday night fun time party. of course, i don't know what i'm talking about so keep that in mind.

recap? hmmm. this is my drunken recap: mind you i'm on pain killers from oral surgery and they were giving away free booze like it was candy on halloween. i can't remember everyone OR the order, because so many people just performed. someine fill in the blanks where needed.
joe and noah hosted. baron vaughn came up, pete holmes, hannibal burress, john gemberling as joey brajole with his big brajole. he was heckled by a couple of drunks and or heroin addicts. one or the other, i honestly couldn't tell. did you see that guy? then chelsea perretti?
right before the break noah sparked a big fat fatty then passed it around. it made it all the way to the back, while i sparked my grandfather's pipe. then a chic came up and did some musical number with pez dispensers. very dramatic. very appropriate after smoking so god damn much. honestly one of the best times to have ever smoked, ever.
then we had a break. gabe and jenny hosted second half. greg johnson came up. he should have taken over hosting at that point. it was sad, you know? it was hitting everyone. tonight was their one year anniversary of their show. larry told a joke about weed. john mullany came up a couple of jokes about shitting out kids, great new material, then leo allen. then eugene murman who had a lot of vodka. started beating the walls with his mic stand, chipping little chips of paint off the wall in a very aggressive manner. then proceeded to throw not one, but TWO full glasses of scotch on the walls. after his delta speech, and passing out pre-addressed post cards to delta, he invited all of the audience up onto the stage to sing skynard, but all Antonio had available was blowin in the wind by dylan.
it was pretty fucking epic. sad to see this place go. fuck.
I didn't see any free booze, but maybe I was asking the wrong people!

I was planning on stopping by the Rififi, before I knew what was happening with it closing, but I didn't. I came back and read this thread and deeply regretted not stopping by.

wow great review. great video footage, didn't even know anyone caught it on tape. and the photos that mindy took are perfect! the one where eugene tears the curtain off the ceiling is dead on with how the night was.
i have a friend who is an artistic director/executive producer of a great venue in the les and wants to give me a weekly night to produce something. i know it's gonna be comedy but i just wouldn't know who i would want to host...
