Abe Hirschfeld (not to be confused with Al Hirschfeld of celebrity caricature/Broadway theatre fame) was a real NYC character; an immigrant who made millions developing parking lots in Manhattan. His NY Times obituary provides some of the highlights of his public career, including his two-week term as publisher of the New York Post and his offer of one million dollars to Paula Jones to get her to drop her sex harassment suit against Bill Clinton.

When he was released from prison after attempting to hire a hitman to rub out his business partner, he called into the Stern show while Gilbert ("I can't believe that they lock people up for murder!") is sitting in. The result is gold.

On his recent appearance on WTF with Marc Maron (http://www.wtfpod.com/podcast/episod...bert_gottfried), Gilbert discussed his early days in standup, and how he would spend 20 minutes just doing impressions of the (then obscure) other comedians at the club. One of the impressions he did was of Jerry Seinfeld, and he described how it would drive Seinfeld crazy.

When Jerry Seinfeld cancelled on the Stern show without warning, they call and have the show on his answering machine. Gilbert's "Jerry Seinfeld Jr." impression gets a lot of work here.
