I've got a spare ticket. I'll be the guy with black glasses and a beard. To narrow it down for you.
Also, a greenish striped hoodie, most likely. I'll probably just accost someone in stand by as I go in. |

Super long and fantastic show punctuated by drop-ins by Louis CK and Todd Barry. Since I'm a bastard, I will leave the job of posting pics and writing up a lengthy recap to someone else. Your welcome.

Fuck yeah. I've been waiting a year for a Louis CK appearance.. and then to piggy back that with Todd Barry. Perfect.

E: Haha
K: What? E: They got a really great picture of Brent at the beginning of the dance. Nailed it. K: I think he had the best set of the night. E: You can't even call it a set. It's like... an art installation. |

Of course....I don't go and fucking Louis CK pops in. I'm really bummed I missed that. I hope it's not another year before he comes back again.

Re: CDRs: Sarah Silverman / Hardwick / Matt Besser / Birthday Boys!
Kyle Kinane hosted a stellar CDR last night and kicked it off with an outstanding set of his own. He mentioned his new glasses and how he figured they would serve as his "passport to Echo Park." He told of going to the optometrist and explaining why one of his contact lenses was five years old and why one was 10 years old. One got knocked out in a fight, so he bought a new pair, and then subsequently lost one of those not long after his arrival in L.A. a year or so ago. He lost it in the Pacific Ocean and immediately began looking for it before coming to the realization that he was searching for a contact lens in "the largest thing on earth." He said his glasses make him look like a half-size Brian Posehn, which got a huge laugh, validating the sentiment, "It's funny because it's true."
He had a great bit about being from Chicago and how strangers latch onto a regional dish to identify with people from certain locations. People always expect Kyle to strenuously object to deep dish pizza outside of Chicago, but he didn't seem to really care, ending the very funny bit with the line, "What am I, King Pizza?" Kyle said something about not having the most refined social skills, like when he recently got out of the shower and his girlfriend said, "You look like a Greek God," he replied, "You don't know shit about mythology." He had a great line about new technology that went something like, "I tried to get on Twitter and I immediately identified with the 'Into the Wild' guy." Kyle also had a hilarious bit about how at 18, he went to art school under the assumption that "art school will pay for itself." He then equated his college degree to a parachute bag packed with pasta instead of a chute. He envisioned the day he decides that comedy isn't working out and pulls the cord, unleashing a bunch of rigatoni instead of the safety net he intended. "How could something so expensive be so useless?" Thankfully, Kyle won't need that chute anytime soon because he continues to impress and seems to have that knack for developing lots of great new material quickly. Steve Agee was first up. His set was highlighted by a story about being at a bar and seeing Kanye West walk in with a huge bag of food from Del Taco and proceed to eat it at the bar. Kanye then recognized Steve from Sarah's show and they talked. Steve didn't know what to say to him, so at one point he mentioned that the Del Taco Kanye was eating earlier looked really good. Kanye said it was and that he loves Del Taco, but when he was in the drive-thru, a bunch of people spotted him and started hovering around his car. Kanye then proceeded to say, "But what am I gonna do, not go to Del Taco?" This elicited one of the biggest laughs of the night. Chelsea Peretti was next up. The most worthwhile part of her set came in the introduction when it was mentioned that she's writing for the Sarah Silverman Program now. Sarah followed and had a very loose, free-flowing set that involved answering any questions from audience members. The questions ranged from "How are you?" to "How do you like LA?" to "At what age is one considered a 'cougar'?" to "Is food better on the East Coast or West Coast?" Sarah also did her great diva/cunt bit she did on Real Time recently. She did the thing about making the word "pussy" powerful again by pronouncing it oddly and saying it with dead eyes. "Puhthy." When Kyle retook the stage, he chastised the crowd for blowing its chance to ask Sarah some good questions. "You guys had a Q&A with Sarah Silverman and you ask her about her favorite food?" He then said something about how lucky and/or spoiled we were and introduced unbilled special guest Louis CK next. Louis was trying out all new material and talked a lot about volunteering at his kid's school in New York. He said their budget is "week-to-week," as in one week they'll say they're going to paint the gym, and the next week "We're not painting the gym anymore" and in fact, it's now the gym of the middle school down the street. A lot of his volunteering is to help resolve conflict amongst kids, which led to some funny stuff that Louis admitted was akin to "kids say the darndest things." He then closed with a bit about people who take pride in the fact they hit their kids to discipline them. Meanwhile, Louis says it's illegal to hit anyone else in the world – except for these tiny, vulnerable people who love you. Todd Barry followed Louis as another drop-in guest. He spent the first few minutes of his set mocking Louis including his inability to do crowd work and all the "kid" content in his set. Anyone who's been around AST for a while should be aware of the ongoing fake feud between Todd and Louis, which obviously made this even funnier. Todd did his bit about Californians being snobby about Mexican food outside of California. Todd even went so far to say that New York has better Mexican food than California, then congratulated himself for saying something so risky in California. He said he doesn't like when people object to eating Italian food in a restaurant because they usually say one of two things: "I'm not paying $10 for one dollar's worth of pasta," or "My grandmother makes it better." Todd prefers restaurant Italian food for one reason: the extra $9 buys you a huge side dish of not having to hang out with your grandma. He also had a great bit about deciding to treat himself to a better brand of deodorant and splurging on Tom's of Maine. After a few days, however, he noticed that it made him smell like shit. He did a Google search and instantly found a message board where lots of other people said the same thing. He then took Tom's of Maine to task for not doing even the most basic research on their product, which would've revealed that "80 people say it smells like shit." Brent Weinbach was next up and arguably had the set of the night. He didn't do a lot of new stuff, but his physicality had the audience in hysterics. His set is probably the most difficult to recap, because it's not so much "jokes" as it is the whole package he delivers to the audience. At one point he brought a girl on stage and then sensuously motioned around her body. When she returned to her seat, he thanked her for coming on stage and said something about how doing so was a gamble, but that she won. He closed with the tribal dance thing he does that is nearly impossible to convey in text, but one of the funniest things all night. Like I've said previously, Brent does such a great job of establishing his odd, rigid stage presence early in his set, it makes the physicality of the dance bit all that much funnier. Chris Hardwick had the unenviable position of closing out a very long show and following the Silverman-CK-Barry-Weinbach murderer's row, but despite that obstacle, delivered a strong set. He immediately pointed out a kid on the stage who resembled Andy Samberg, which was funny, again, because it was true. Chris said he's so addicted to Twitter that to try to break the habit, he forces himself to say "Tweet tweet" in a gay voice before posting now. He did his bit about Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears and Paris Hilton being government agents designed to detract attention from truly serious topics. He relayed something he heard Robert Smigel wanted to do, and made sure not to take credit for it, but just wanted to share it with the audience. Apparently Smigel wanted to do a parody commercial on SNL for RU-486, the morning after pill, that would've been modeled on a exterminator/Raid commercial, with the slogan, "RU-486 Gets Deep Inside Where the Babies Hide." Chris had a great bit about recently seeing a double dosage of evil: Ed Hardy Ugg boots. He said that's like swimming through a moat of snot to reach a castle of ass rape. Finally, he envisions the typical Ed Hardy-wearing guy as a guy who likes to do what Chris calls "the garbage bag." This entails two guys gently rubbing their balls together and then wrapping their cocks around each other like twist ties on a garbage bag. And that brought to a close yet another unforgettable night in the history of CDR! |

Re: CDRs: Sarah Silverman / Hardwick / Matt Besser / Birthday Boys!
motherfucker... i just finished a long recap. (well not ilis long) and i went to post it and had to log-in again. GRR.
![]() Kyle "Posehn" Kinane ![]() Aside from the Del Taco story, my other favorite part of Agee's set was when he was telling a story about catching a glimpse of himself while having sex with this 5'1 lady and could only describe the scene as "a walrus crushing a poor child". ![]() "I totally want to fuck your baby." Chelsea Peretti talks about how mothers say their babies are flirting with her when they laugh and giggle. ![]() Sarah Silverman talks about her makeshift american apparel knee sock wristband flair, something she's allowed to get away with as a celebrity. ![]() "Uh, which is better, East coast or West Coast food?" Good question dude, just keep drinking that beer in your lap. ![]() "I can't stop him from HAVING said that." Louis CK talks about not giving a shit about kids who tattle on others who use bathroom language. ![]() "I'm really sorry you had to sit through that." Todd Barry apologizes for having to endure LCK's set about kids. ![]() Brent Weinbach shows us what gay eyelids look like. ![]() Brent sings a sexy r&b happy birthday jam. ![]() I always love the intro to this dance, which involves a conversation with a stripper on a bus bench. "HI. I'm Brent Weinbach." "Hi." "What do you do for a living?" "I'm a dancer." "Like Tap?" "No, Exotic." "Like Butoh?" ![]() Chris does some Harry Potter snaps. ![]() chris hardwick points out the younger more cuddlier version of andy samberg in the audience.

Re: CDRs: Sarah Silverman / Hardwick / Matt Besser / Birthday Boys!
a friend of mine is moving back to the states after living in denmark for a little while and one of the first things on the "welcome back to america" to-do list is go to del taco.
edit: i forwarded ilis' recap of the agee to my friend and he replied: "are you trying to get me to not go to del taco? i hate kanye. but what i am going to do, not go to del taco?" Last edited by yumitree; April 8, 2009 at 9:52 PM. Reason: irrelevant update. |
