Thread: Detroit Comedy

  1. #1

    Detroit Comedy

I recently moved back to the Detroit area (from COLLEGE) and I've been looking for places to see/perform/avoid stand-up comedy. So far I've only checked out open mic Joey's Comedy Club in Livonia.

Anybody here know of Detroit-area comedy clubs/events that are worth going to?

Next week I intend to check out open mics at the Comedy Castle, Club Bart, and the Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase. Wish me luck!

I'm from the Metro area too and you pretty much named all the places available to see/perform comedy in the area. I've seen a couple shows at the AA comedy showcase and found that to be the most enjoyable room. I hope everything went well.

Also, Louis C.K. is performing at my alma mater Michigan State on Thursday so you may want to check that out.

I saw open mic nights at Club Bart and Comedy Castle. It was tolerable! I have yet to go to AA Comedy Showcase, but it'll happen.
I saw the Chaplin's website and the logo creeped me out.

And I do also plan to check out the Second City and Planet Ant. I know people who know people who preform at those venues. And I'll be sure to check out Go Comedy when the time comes (maybe on Thursdays before open mic at Club Bart!). Awesome!

Also, since I'm on a forum that cares, I'm a PA on a movie with David Cross, Jay Johnston, and Legendary Comedian Robert Kline in Dearborn and Novi.

    Re: Detroit Comedy

I grew up about 2 blocks from Joey's Comedy Club. I wasn't really into stand up when I lived there that's a recent development thanks to the UCB Theatre but I'll be back in town for a few days at the end of the month and it looks like nothing is happening so...

    oh well.

Jimmy Dore is going to be at the Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase from Jan. 22-24. It says he's going to be doing his Citizen Jimmy show. It's going to be awesome.

Thanks for the Stella scoop. I'll be there.

Tim & Eric will be at the Royal Oak Music Theatre on January 25.
Also, Dave Attel is going to be at Mark Ridley's Comedy Castle on March 12.

Finally and most importantly, Detroit's favorite son Dave Coulier returns in January to talk about stuff and how he sees it!
